There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation. Shares and acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, the customer experience, and advances in various engineering fields.· Creates and executes on robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans that account for current industry/threats for the electrical engineering aspects of a variety of established, complex products or feature areas.· Participates in creating intellectual property and conducts technical due diligence. May file patents within own area of scope and completing necessary patent documentation.· Develops and implements solutions to complex technical and/or design challenges that may involve multiple technical and business-related variables; applies lessons learned to develop future focused solutions to complex design challenges.· Writes internal device specification sheets. Reads device specification sheets and interprets complex details required to design and test various hardware features.· Independently develops design documentation which could include drawings, specifications, schematics, or diagrams that contribute to the development of complex, new products or features. Provides guidance to other engineers on the use of fundamental features of modeling tools and facilitates design reviews by providing and collecting feedback on designs.· Contributes to engineering system design decisions that account for platform-specific technology decisions (e.g., Radio Frequency, Camera, Sensors, Touch) bysharing details about design decisions and needs with internal cross-functional stakeholders.· Guides their team's review of supplier or partner products and participates in making supplier or partner selection decisions to support product development.· Uses root cause analysis to identify highly complex problems or flaws that may affect a range of features or product design changes. Identifies possible solutions to novel and complex problems.· Provides make-versus-buy recommendations to management with tradeoffs based on complexity, financial impact, quality, reliability, and time duration. Influences decision making with stakeholders working on similar products.Design/Testing and Verification· Participates in simulation of a complex components or subassemblies to ensure design is robust and to virtually test hardware features under different environments and/or conditions.Testing and Verficiation· Reviews documentation to help ensure that the appropriate test requirements and improvements are included in relevant hardware designs and specifications by applying an understanding of how complex features or products work under a variety of customer scenarios.· Creates new verification plans and anticipates the types of test equipment required for measuring features of new product technology. Participates in the design and development of new, specialized equipment as needed for testing new or unique hardware.· Writes design verification test cases by identifying new tools, test methodologies, and/or best practices that include elements such as success metrics and tracking systems.· Develops, reviews, and executes test plans and/or infrastructure for complex or large sized scope feature areas or products. Provides guidance to other engineers to execute test plans.· Reviews the automated testing solutions with reusability, extendibility, and scalability and helps with complex debugging within a product line. Seeks out opportunities for automation.· Creates external testing supplier or partner engagement plans, evaluates supplier or partner readiness, and captures knowledge for use across the product. Defines the format of the content to be reported by the external supplier or partner.· Guides other engineers in how to set up and break down testing environment. Outlines safety and testing guidelines for other engineers.· Creates dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics based on hardware characterization and performance data, in partnership with other internal groups (e.g., IT, Testing).· Uses data and statistical analysis to identify highly complex problems or flaws that may affect a range of features or product design changes. Identifies possible solutions to novel and complex problems.· Develops test fixtures for use in testing and/or validation of new product features; provides guidance to other engineers in developing test fixtures for basic features.Technical Project Implementation· Generates project implementation schedules, monitors performance against schedules, and helps determine resource dependencies for the hardware engineering aspects of complex features or products. Guides other team members.· Implements and tracks product plans that account for the user experience, enable customer/partner testing scenarios, identify critical requirements (e.g., function, quality, safety, reparability, and/or reliability) and are verifiable.· Resolves design issues, identifies recurring issues, and makes recommendations for necessary design changes and design tradeoffs (e.g., extendibility or refurbishing) for multiple products.· Researches and identifies new tools, technologies, or processes for project implementation to improve product quality, performance, and reliability.· Recognizes trends to optimize existing processes, or creates new processes that can be used by similar product-unit disciplines.· Identifies the most significant project risks (e.g., supplier or partner delays, incomplete specs, or tool issues) at the outset of a project, and develops plans to address those risks. Incorporates learnings from previous projects.· Communicates project progress/status within and external to the project team (e.g., to customers and partners) and escalates issues as necessary.Reporting and Documentation· Writes customized reports and functional specifications for an established product or product feature, based on audits and information from product development and verification processes.
