Mitchell County Regional Health Center is in Osage, Iowa located in Mitchell County, which has a population of 10,600 people. MCRHC is a 25-bed critical access hospital, including a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room seeing 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including specialties General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain management, and Podiatry.

Founded more than 75 years ago as a community hospital, today we operate three clinics, 24/7 emergency services, inpatient and outpatient medical/surgical services. About The Job:

The Chief Operations Officer holds primary accountability for the overall operations of the organization. The individual provides the administrative leadership & direction for ancillary & support services and facilitates the development, implementation, and the evaluation of the services. Serves as an assistant administrator in the absence of the Administrator/CEO. The Chief Operations Officer works with various stakeholders to improve the financial performance goals of the organization as part of the senior leadership team to set & meet the strategic goals of the organization including the operations of the assigned departments & regulatory responsibilities. Provides leadership using process excellence methodologies through collaboration with our primary customer groups.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborates with leaders of MCRHC Board of Trustees, network, management, medical staff, and clinical staff in the hospital-wide decision-making structures and processes including developing, implementing and reviewing the hospital's mission, vision, values, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operating plans, policies, quality assessment and improvement activities and the hospital plan for patient care.
  • Develops, implements and periodically reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with federal and state regulations. Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation and advises administration when pertinent.
  • Serves as and performs duties of CEO, as needed, during absence of CEO.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education and advancement goals of nursing and patient care providers.
  • Serves as Chief Operations Officer for the local organization working closely with MercyOne and Network. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates services provided at Mitchell County Regional Health Center.
  • Routinely attends and actively participates in the Network affinity meetings; supports and implements system wide initiatives.
  • Interacts with hospital peers, medical staff, and management as well as various Network committees and external professional and governmental agencies in addressing the development, implementation and evaluation of systems, programs, services, policies and procedures that affect the organization and its ability to deliver quality patient care services. Assures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Position Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • BA or BSN degree required. Master's degree preferred. 3-5 years' experience in healthcare management and/or LEAN preferred.

Special Skills & Aptitudes:

  • Knowledge of statistics, data collection, analysis and data presentation.
  • Should demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal relationships.
  • Must be able to make sound judgments and decisions in all practices.
  • Must be able to organize time and establish priorities.
  • Strong influencing, collaboration and partnering skills with the credibility to lead change.
