Position Overview: The SMT Process Engineer will provide expertise in all aspects of SMT production including printing machines, Stencil design, SPI/AOI programming, reflow oven profiling, X-Ray inspection, and equipment maintenance. This position requires excellent troubleshooting skills of Surface Mount Equipment to ensure optimal equipment availability in a low-volume, high-mix environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate offline programs for Fuji and Universal pick and place machines; performs online verification.
  • Create and modify component profiles for SMT and AOI equipment.
  • Generate inspection programs for SPI and AOI equipment.
  • Develop and Maintain oven profiles.
  • Provides training and technical support to Engineering Techs, machine operators, and maintenance techs.
  • Assures that customer and company standards are being met.
  • Routinely analyzes performance data and leads improvement initiatives to improve quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Supports Manufacturing and helps assure daily production targets are met.
  • Applies Lean Manufacturing Techniques to improve quality/yields, reduce changeover time, and optimize leadtime and costs.
  • Optimizes machine set-up, changeover, and programming (line balancing).
  • Supports New Product Introduction (NPI) launch activities; performs DFx analysis of new customer designs using Valor software.
  • Manipulates data files using Gerber, ODB++, and various CAD packages.
  • Supports and adheres to the Quality Management System
  • Must be an ITAR Compliant US Person.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to support Operations.

Education and Experience for the SMT Process Engineer:

  • BS Degree in a related Engineering discipline required.
  • Must have solid engineering experience in the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) industry in a high-reliability environment; contract manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Fuji and/or Univeral programming software experience is required; SPI/AOI programming is a plus.
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills and possess good analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with customers on identifying and suggesting DFx opportunities; experience with Valor DFx analysis tools is a plus.
  • Experience should include working with all SMT Processes – SMT Pick and Place, Manual & Thermal profiling, Automatic Optical Inspection, and X-Ray.
  • Experience with RoHS and familiar with IPC-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
  • Strong leadership and coaching/mentoring skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills - written and verbal
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, self-direction, and self-discipline to plan and accomplish objectives and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Exhibits a “Can-Do” attitude and actively seeks for solutions to problems; good team player with pleasant personality.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • SMTA Certified Process Engineer preferred.
