Summary:The Repair Manager is crucial in minimizing revenue losses by efficiently managing repair operations and maintaining strong customer relations. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position oversees a team of supervisors responsible for general repairs, coating, and painting of tanks and covered hopper cars. The Repair Manager coordinates production schedules, ensures compliance with regulations, and fosters a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate repair operations to meet customer requirements and prioritize tasks according to company guidelines.
- Supervise repair supervisors and ensure adherence to AAR, DOT, FRA, and company regulations.
- Monitor productivity, safety, and quality standards across all repair areas
- Conduct safety training, participate in meetings with union representatives, and assist in budget preparation.
- Act as the Plant Manager in their absence and provide coverage for absent or vacationing supervisors.
- Implement efficient work methods to meet repair challenges while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Uphold the company's Quality Policy and actively participate in quality improvement projects.
Qualifications:
- 5 years min of supervisor experience with tank car production and repair
- High school diploma (a bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred) with a minimum of five years experience in AAR, FRA, DOT and company policies
- Knowledge of safety practices, welding and metal fabrication, and blueprint reading.
- Heavy industrial repair/manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of rail experience.
- In addition, a potential candidate must possess strong organizational skills and mechanical aptitude.
