Employment Status: Permanent - Full Time - Non-exempt
Schedule: Schedule may vary based on events and projects. During the time when there are no events the schedule would be Monday – Friday 8:00 - 5:30.
Compensation: Grade 7; Starting rate $20.96/hour


POSITION SUMMARY:

Works under the supervision of the Director of Arts & Culture Development, and Arts & Cultural Venues Manager and is reviewed for compliance with established procedures while working and through review after assignment completion and evaluation of the same. This position will plan, schedule, and ensure proper technical support for the Metropolitan Theatre, Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater and other applicable venues; serves as lead technician and liaison for staff and facility users; maintains inventory of technical equipment, determines proper weight loads and limits, rigging, sound, lighting, and stage systems; coordinates technical requirements with renters, show promoters, managers, and other event personnel for each event; supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates theater technical and event staff; ensures for the successful sound and lighting support for all events and activities at the Metropolitan Theatre, Ruby Amphitheater, and other city/department events and locations as needed. The position will also serve as event manager at events when managers are not available.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES - KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:

  • Working with the Director and Venues Manager, helps create and coordinate events schedules and technical staffing for Metropolitan Theatre and Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater and other applicable venues as City needs arise and/or as assigned.
  • Plan, organize and implement the maintenance and operation of technical performance-related equipment at the Metropolitan Theatre, and Ruby Amphitheater including lights and lighting control panels, sound equipment, microphones, sound boards, speakers, special effects equipment and other technical systems used during performance and rehearsals.
  • Program sound equipment, lighting equipment, and other technical systems in advance of performances and productions; troubleshoot and resolve problems with productions equipment. Operation of such a system and maintenance is also required.
  • Provide technical support and services for a variety of projects and facilities within the department and the City.
  • Assist in scheduling and supervision of events and other staff as needed for technical production and event support.
  • Serve as event manager and SPOC at city events when director or facility manager are not present.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; notify supervisor of the need to repair and replace equipment.
  • Serve as a liaison between production staff, promoters, directors of events, renters, and theatre staff.
  • Utilize proper safety practices and procedures and the ability to climb stairs and ladders safely and follow safety protocols as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Exposure to the public in large crowds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Use of ladders and aerial work platforms.
  • Exposure to high sound pressure levels for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work at heights may be required.


USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT:

  • Position has daily use of computers for data entry and use of the telephone, radios, copier, computer operated stage and professional lighting systems and sound systems, etc.
  • Lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and power tools as required.
  • Extensive use of professional sound and lighting consoles and related equipment as well as programming and maintenance of those and other related equipment.


CONTACT & SUPERVISION:

  • Position encounters contact with various community groups, city departments, artists, stakeholders, volunteers, etc., and public on occasions.
  • Position will supervise event staff and other technical personal, volunteers, and serve as onsite coordinator for events and programs.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree with major course work being in Theater, Arts, Arts & Culture, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field or a combination of education and experience.

Certification/License:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience in theater/arts technical production, facility management, and event production.
  • Planning, developing, and operating a comprehensive year-round program of produced, co-produced, and rental events at multiple facilities.
