COMPANY DESCRIPTION
For 29 years, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas (“Arts & Ideas”) has inspired and delighted audiences with an annual program of over 200 performing arts and humanities events year-round, at least 85% of which are free.
Focused events in June range from world and nationally-renowned speakers sharing the stage with critical local voices for discussions on democracy, to jazz concerts, theatrical performances, dance; takeout mixology classes; bike and walking tours; and live, individual performances by local on-call artists on front lawns and sidewalks throughout the area.
Year-round programs include special town-hall events, a fellowship program for youth, planning and implementing mini-festivals in New Haven’s culturally-rich neighborhoods, participation in the NEA Big Read, and our annual Visionary Leadership Event.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Working under the supervision of the Audience Services Manager, the House Manager Captain will serve as direct supervision and support to House Management staff.
Responsibilities
- Participate in one or more training sessions on the use of Eventbrite the Festival’s online ticketing and fund-raising platform, the Festival’s online ticketing and fund-raising platform, and the use of Teams meetings.
- Become well versed in the Festival’s program and schedule.
- Collaborate with Audience Services Manager to hire, train, and schedule House Management staff.
- Build a team that will provide excellent, efficient, and friendly customer service.
- Provide highly competent in-person and virtual management of events.
- Be well versed in fire safety and emergency procedures.
- Serve as point of contact for audience emergencies.
- Review daily House Manager Reports.
- Support the Front of House Operations in all activities needed to provide a positive customer experience and to ensure patron safety at in-person and virtual Festival events.
- Prepare a wrap-up report at the end of the season including an analysis of House Management Operations, as well as recommendations for future years.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Coordinate with People Generalist and House Managers to ensure Ushers/ volunteer staffing needs are met.
- Participate in Festival, Production, Programming and Marketing meetings, and get familiarized with the Festival Programming.
- Coordinate the transportation needs for offsite event check-in with the Festival’s Transportation Captain.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior customer service experience
- CPR & First Aid Certified or willing to obtain certification
Reports to: Audience Services Manager.
Supervises: House Managers
Key Communication with: Company Manager, People Generalist, and Transportation Captain.
