GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:


The line mechanic is to work closely with the line engineer, maintenance and operations on a day to day basis to keep the line in good working condition enhance production and quality as well as equipment life. The EAF Mechanic is to report to the EAF Engineer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Responds to calls from the EAF process lines for mechanical breakdowns and make necessary repairs to continue running the line.
  2. Repairs or replaces defective or damaged components that affect either area of production. This includes identifying the parts needed, finding and retrieving the part {s} from spares and installing the parts as needed.
  3. Completes work as assigned on maintenance work orders. These work orders include any type of maintenance work {electrical, mechanical, automation} and are performed

either on downtime or while the machine is running.

  1. Fills out daily reports on work completed.
  2. Reports major equipment problems requiring engineering services to the Engineer assigned to the particular area in question. The mechanic is to correct equipment problems as they are found whenever possible especially for jobs that require immediate attention.
  3. Fills out PM check sheets where required.
  1. Performs housekeeping in area of the plant as assigned



RELATIONSHIPS:


  1. The Tech works as a team member of the maintenance crew. The job involves independent as well as team effort work on troubleshooting and making repairs. The tech will work with Shift Crews, Group Leaders, Supervisors, Engineers, and Managers for better, faster, and easier ways to make repairs.

  1. The chain of command is first the EAF Mechanical Maintenance Engineer and then Maintenance Manager.



SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Other duties as assigned either verbally or in writing by Supervisors, Engineers, or Managers of the Maintenance Department.



MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. A Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
  2. Two year industrial experience and/or technical degree in the related field



PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • Mobility in plant.
  • Communication abilities
  • Mobility: Stand (stationary) - 25%, stand/walk - 45%, walking - 15%, sitting - 15%.
  • Strength and Agility: Lifting - occ. - 80#, carrying - occ. 150 ft., push/pull - occ. - 80#, climbing - freq., balancing - occ., bending - cc., stooping - occ., crouching - occ., kneeling - occ., crawling - occ., running - occ., twisting - occ., turning - occ.
  • Dexterity: Grasping (firm/strong), finger dexterity/handling, reaching.

HEALTH AND SAFETY


  1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  2. Follow Company safety rules.
  3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately.
  4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
    • Safety shoes
    • Safety glasses
    • Hearing protection
    • Hard Hat
  5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.
  6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
  7. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
