Senior Tax Accountant

My client is a reputable accounting and professional services firm based in Nova Scotia, committed to delivering comprehensive tax, assurance, and advisory services to a diverse clientele. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Canadian taxation, strong technical expertise, and a proven ability to provide strategic tax planning and compliance solutions to clients.

Responsibilities:

• Manage a portfolio of tax clients, including individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
• Prepare and review complex tax returns, including corporate tax returns, personal tax returns, and trust returns, accurately and efficiently.
• Conduct tax research and analysis on various tax matters, staying up-to-date with changes in tax legislation, rulings, and interpretations.
• Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services to clients, identifying opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax structures.
• Advise clients on tax implications of business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, and other strategic initiatives.
• Assist in resolving tax disputes and audits with tax authorities, representing clients and advocating on their behalf.
• Collaborate with assurance and advisory teams to provide integrated client solutions, addressing both tax and financial aspects of engagements.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and providing timely and responsive client service.
• Mentor and supervise junior tax staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback to support their professional development.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in taxation, participating in professional development activities and continuing education programs.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax accounting, preferably in a public accounting firm environment.
• In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax legislation, including the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, and other relevant statutes and regulations.
• Strong technical proficiency in tax compliance and tax planning strategies for individuals and businesses.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax issues and provide practical solutions.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues at all levels.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in tax software and accounting systems, including Taxprep, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel.
• Commitment to upholding professional standards and ethics in accordance with CPA Canada guidelines.
• Eligibility for registration with a provincial CPA regulatory body in Nova Scotia.

Job Type: Full-time, Fully Remote

Pay: $50,000-$90,000 per year
