Are you interested in the field of surveying and mapping? Does taking precise measurements and accurately recording data fascinate you? RETTEW seeks a Survey Field Technician I to support our Survey Team in our Mechanicsburg, PA, office.
As a Survey Field Technician, you will perform boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA/NSPS field surveys, calculate a wide variety of survey data, participate in the preparation of computer-generated maps and reports based on survey data, and maintain accurate records, files, and documentation including field notes. Please ensure you meet the requirements below before applying to the position.
Responsibilities
- Search, locate, and recover existing survey markers, including stones and property irons, and set out stakes and other markers.
- Compile and verify preexisting data from photographs, previous surveys, maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and other sources.
- Lay out grids, position rods, and operate measuring instruments, including theodolites, prisms, and electronic tools.
- Record data using electronic devices, image-capturing software, drawings, and detailed notes, and double-check for accuracy,
- Inventory and maintain equipment for use by the survey party, including vehicles, electronics, and brush-cutting tools.
- Use a plotter to plot data accurately and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software to create technical drawings for topographical and boundary surveys.
- Work in collaboration with other members of the survey party, taking direction from the lead surveyor and instructing and assisting subordinates but working independently when needed.
- Clear brush and transport tools and materials over uneven terrain, and retrieve stakes, rebar, and other miscellaneous materials from the site at the end of each project.
Job Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds daily
- Strong computation, geometry, and trigonometry skills
- Proficiency in CAD, Trimble GPS, and Civil 3D
- Two or more years of experience as a surveying technician
