Medical Assistant Faculty/ CoordinatorPOSITION SUMMARY

Faculty Purpose: Support the Medical Assistant Program in the School of Health Professions. They fulfill the university mission by providing a quality education that prepares students for living and making a living. Instructors act as facilitators for learning in an online environment and bridge classroom theory to workplace application.


Coordinator Purpose: Providing administrative and operational support in the clinical skills lab setting for the Medical Assistant (MA) Certificate Program in Washington, Oregon, Montana, California, and other states in the near future. Major responsibilities include the initial set up of all new skills lab settings and maintenance of current skills lab settings in place. Additional responsibilities include ordering and restocking supplies, creating, and maintaining training notebooks for current and new skills lab sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching Load: Instructors may teach up to 4 courses (an average of 14 credit hours) during each 12-month academic year resulting in a level of documented learner satisfaction and demonstrated success in achieving program and student learning outcomes.
  • Teaching responsibilities are conducted in a manner that is in compliance with the University employment agreement, University policies, procedures, Codes of Conduct, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist Program Director with curriculum updates and course revisions as necessary to keep the program in line with industry and accreditation standards.
  • Works closely with the Program Director on key administrative and operational program functions in the clinical skills lab setting and student practicum experience to include assisting with organization preceptor training specific to individual site needs.
  • Responsible for the set-up of all new clinical skills lab sites to include maintenance and replication of the clinical skills lab notebook, ordering, organizing, and maintaining all inventory in each location under the guidance of the Program Director.
  • Responsible for assisting and coordinating student practicum experiences with the Program Director and organizational leadership.
  • Oversee Program Immersion needs to include but not limited to compiling immersion packets.
  • Participate in all program immersions as assigned twice per year to include speaking and assistive support to the Program Director.
  • Participate in all program graduations as assigned twice per year to include speaking and assistive support to the Program Director.
  • Participate and provide support to the Program Director for all National Accreditation requirements to include, but not limited to, Advisory Board Meetings, Tracking Data, Graduate Surveys, Employer Surveys and other duties as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the University and Providence mission and philosophy.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Faculty and Coordinator work is hybrid. The faculty member must have a reliable personal computer with internet access for a remote home office to work in the University’s learning management system and access other university software programs related to academic programs and grading.
  • The faculty member must have a reliable source of transportation as they will teach the consecutive skill labs and travel for shipping supplies out of state to labs in Oregon, Washington, and California.

EDUCATION

  • This position requires a minimum of an associate degree in a healthcare field preferable Medical Assistant.
  • Teaching experience in a classroom or healthcare facility teaching/training environment.
  • A current medical assistant certification and in good standing, through a nationally recognized and accredited certifying agency such as the AAMA, NHA, NCCT, or AMCA. (The candidate will have 90 days from date of hire, to earn their Medical Assistant Certification if they do not hold current certification.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Broad and current knowledge of healthcare at the facility, organization, and industry (State and Federal) levels.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proficient computer skills and a working knowledge of software programs and communication methods is required; this includes Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Preferred:

  • Previous on-line teaching experience in a healthcare related field.
  • Previous experience teaching, reviewing and/or developing online curriculum.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adult learning and educational theories and techniques.
  • Certification as Certified Online Instructor (COI) or Quality Matters Applying the QM Rubric Certificate
