K-8 Regional Access Coach/Specialist
The K-8 Regional Access Coach/Specialist will work closely with key stakeholders at the Office of Special Populations at the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) and will be an integral partner with the department in their implementation of the K-8 Access for All Learning Network (AALN), which provides training and support for students with disabilities across the state. A person in this position has knowledge of instruction and intervention for students ages 3-22 in Tennessee. This position will support selected districts with implementation of training principles through interpreting directives, assessing performance, designing training, coaching, direct observation, and evaluating. The goal for the K-8 Regional Access Coaches is to interpret state directives to improve access and scaffolds to high-quality instructional materials for students with disabilities.
This position will require working from a home office and frequent travel to assigned districts in TN. This is a contract grant-funded position with an anticipated funding end date of June 30, 2027.
Qualifications
K-8 Regional Access Coach Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide observation, coaching, and feedback, virtually and in-person, on facilitator and educator implementation of training principles related to access to high-quality core instruction and intensive intervention.
- Responsible to ensure fidelity of classroom implementation of training principles related to access to high-quality core instruction and intensive intervention.
- Coaches must be able to interpret state directives and what that means within the district and in the individual classrooms. The coaches work directly with district administrators to assess the needs of the district, schools, and teachers.
- These coaches will collaborate closely with the Office of Special Populations at TDOE and ensure project guidelines and goals are met. The coaches will collaborate with TDOE regional special education specialists to ensure aligned and coordinated support to districts, schools, and educators.
- Collaborating regularly with the Access for All Learning Network team to ensure aligned and coordinated support to districts, schools, and educators.
- Collaborate with other contractors partnered with TDOE when assigned districts are engaged in multiple partnerships.
Direct coaching, observations and evaluation:
- Coaches will work directly with district leaders selected for the AALN team to identify needs in the district and implement TDOE's AALN initiatives.
- Frequent travel to districts within the assigned region to provide coaching and support (estimated distances within 1-2.5 hours).
- Conduct walkthroughs on district-selected classrooms using the Instructional Practice Guide (IPG).
- Work to ensure districts are entering their survey data for each category (learning Networks, CoPs, and RAC coaching).
- K-8 Regional Access Coaches will enter data into designated systems and use data collected during observations to coach district leadership to set goals for growth in quality practices.
Training Development and Delivery
- Work with TDOE partner, The New Teacher Project (TNTP), to learn and help develop content for monthly learning network meetings, quarterly communities of practice and summer in-person trainings.
- Deliver prepared content each month to all district leaders in each of three participating AALN Cohorts virtually and each summer for 1 week in person.
Competencies/Qualifications:
· At least 3 years’ experience working in K-8 education,
· Ability to support that all children can learn and that expectations must remain high for all students,
· The ability to redeliver/present impactful training to educators and administrators both virtually and in-person,
