Designer I - Print, Color, Concept - Calvin Klein

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Print, Color, and Concept Designer will support the Calvin Klein Global Concepts Team from initial concept through product delivery. They will work closely with the design team to execute the seasonal direction across all product categories. The designer is responsible for ideating and interpreting seasonal design direction, working collaboratively with design, merchandising, and supply partners. A good attitude and excitement for the brand and categories are needed to help inspire and support a collaborative work environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Collaborate on seasonal concepts, specifically print and color.
  • Build out seasonal print concept boards based on direction from the design director.
  • Own print creative tasks, including print design, purchasing prints, print recoloring/scaling, allocating fabric bases, and printing techniques.
  • Own all print production tasks, requesting sign-offs with mills, communicating with mills on comments and approvals on sign-offs, SMS, and bulk, and working closely with RM and Supply.
  • Cross-functional work with women’s and men’s design - woven and knits.
  • Prepare all print presentations for leadership.
  • Maintain and update the print library.
  • Work with the design director on seasonal color palettes, including color research and matching.
  • Support design director with color-related tasks (meetings, recoloring, dyeing, etc.) 
  • Support research for Global Concepts seasonal launches.
  • Work and communicate daily with cross-functional teams from development to final product.
  • Take initiative, embrace change, and adapt to learning new concepts and procedures.
  • Ability to meet overlapping deadlines.

Internal: Design, Merchandising, RM, Supply

External: Mills, Factories, Consultants, Vendors

RESOURCEFULNESS/CREATIVITY:

Responsible for contributing images, concept ideas, trend research, and print/graphic ideas.

ENVIRONMENT:

Highly creative, deadline- and process-driven environment.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience; background in Textile Design.
  • Highly creative.
  • Proficiency in garment construction for multiple Menswear categories.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to establish good relationships with key parties and department staff.
  • Flexibility to deadline demands and seasonal schedules.
  • Enthusiastic and keen on interdisciplinary solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency and experience using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Flexible and reliable.
