This position opening is based out of our Greenville, SC location.

The overall responsibilities of a CDL Driver include:

  • Securing and un-securing multiple loads throughout the day for transporting loaded trailers to the jobsite and returning empty trailer back to storage lot.
  • Understand product types and follow erection sequence as communicated throughout the day by erector to meet crane/erection schedule.
  • Work with erector to stack trailers as needed for returning to manufacturing plant.
  • Organize storage lot for trailer parking, picking up any trash or trailer dunnage and coordinate movement to make sure damage to storage yard fencing or other structures is avoided.
  • Able to sleep in sleeper cab of truck for multiple days as needed at remote storage lots.
  • Manage the return of empty trailers to the correct plants based on trailer’s home plant/owner.
  • Demonstrate a complete ownership of storage lot management.
  • Communicate throughout the day with dispatch on trailers and loads.
  • Operate vehicle in a safe, professional and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate a positive safety attitude.
  • Understand and follow accident procedures.
  • Inform supervisor of any moving violation and/or vehicle accident while employed.
  • Inform supervisor if any facility or equipment gets damaged at the storage lot.
  • Demonstrate ability to locate various job sites, cities, and locations with a minimal amount of instruction.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DOT regulations and hours of service requirements.
  • Maintain and update DOT medial card and daily logbook accurately.
  • Understand DOT requirements and demonstrate ability to perform required DOT vehicle inspections.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the use of load binders, straps, chains, and other securing devices.
  • Has ability and knowledge concerning all vehicle controls relating to engine and transmission.
  • Maintains vehicle in a clean manner both inside and out.
  • Ensure required maintenance is performed on vehicle.
  • Observe all company rules and regulations.
  • Understand and comply with environmental policies as they relate to hazardous materials, fuel spills, etc.
  • Must adhere to all Metromont, DOT, and OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Characteristics
  • Follows Metromont policies regarding tractor trailer operation
  • Must be experienced in over-sized loads
  • Must be able to physically hook/unhook trailer, tie down and untie 12+ loads a day
  • Must be assertive to drive storage yard trailer organization, correct any driver bad habits of not returning their dunnage and or leaving trash on the ground
  • Requires good time management to meet erectors delivery schedule throughout the day
  • Requires good communication skills
  • Must be alert while driving
  • Maintains a positive attitude with customers
  • Self-motivated
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and skills
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills

Education and Technology

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license with 3 years over-size experience
  • Clean MVR report
