SUMMARY OF COMPANY

Southwest Shipyard, LP provides gas freeing and cleaning services, steaming, and flaring services, Barge and boat repair, Surface preparation and painting, water treatment and new construction services to the commercial and government marine industry. Southwest Shipyard owns and operates four (4) shipyards in South Texas with direct deep-water access to the Gulf of Mexico. JOB SUMMARY

This position is accountable for performing accounting operations of Southwest Shipyard, L.P., including the production of periodic payable reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform day-to-day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, posting, and recording accounts payables’ data.
  • Process accounts and incoming invoices in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Codes such items as invoices, vouchers, expense reports, and check requests.
  • Receive and distribute incoming accounts payable invoices and related documents for approval.
  • Ensure that approvals, when required are completed.
  • Schedule invoices for payment by vouching to purchase order and receiver inputs into data processing system.
  • Code invoices / correct coding errors as the need arises, input into data processing system.
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
  • Review for sales tax and accrue where necessary.
  • Provide essential support to the company by ensuring that employees and vendors are paid properly and on time.
  • Reconcile the accounts payable to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date.
  • Correspond with vendors and respond to payable inquiries.
  • Assist with reconciliation of company credit cards monthly.
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits.
  • Maintain accurate historical records.
  • Maintain confidentiality of organizational information.
  • Perform Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • An associate degree in a related field is preferred but not required, or previous AP experience in the construction, manufacturing, or other relevant or similar industry.
  • 1-3 years of accounts payable experience; or equivalent general accounting experience; or equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills required, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • Sage Software experience would be a benefit but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and complete work to articulated deadlines based on team needs.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive partnerships and work collaboratively with Project Team, Vendors, Customers, Employees, and Subcontractors.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, communication proficiency, teamwork, results-driven.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm

Hybrid Remote Work Environment two days per week (upon successful transition to permanent employee)

Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees.
