Compensation: $130,000 - $145,000 (Dynamic Total Rewards Package)

Position Overview: Join us as the Elementary Campus Principal at Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School! As our Principal, you'll be the visionary leader driving success at our Taylor Street Elementary Campus. You'll inspire and motivate staff, students, and parents while ensuring our 1st-5th grade educators have the support they need to bring our IB PYP programs to life.

As a principal, you'll embody joyful, child-centered learning through inquiry, with a focus on promoting Chinese language success for all. You'll tackle challenges head-on, listen empathetically, and strategically plan for our program's growth and success.

The priorities for the next two years will be:

Fostering a dynamic, responsive and nurturing staff community; retaining Yu Ying's exceptional team and building partnerships that attract new talent
Developing a systemic approach and wrap up care so students furthest from opportunity excel in our unique IB PYP and dual language Chinese immersion model
Building and executing a high-quality educator coaching and development program with a focus on math and learning through inquiry across all subjects and languages
Strengthening and developing systems to support sustainable education initiatives at the Elementary Campus
Serving as a trusted member of the Yu Ying cross-campus senior leadership team and providing voice, perspective and wisdom on the development of initiatives and programs across campuses to create a developmentally appropriate and cohesive “Yu Ying Way”

Essential Responsibilities, including but not limited:

Provide exceptional people-centered support at the Elementary Campus Education Leader. Duties include:
  • Lead instructional leadership meetings and provide effective management and coaching to educational leaders
  • Oversee education staff coaching and evaluation plans.
  • Direct and participate in a planned program of informal and formal classroom visitations, observations and debrief sessions
  • Provide guidance and support to instructional leaders on achieving team performance standards and goals.
  • Direct the implementation of staff development and in-service training
  • Counsel and advise school employees where necessary.
  • Develop strategies for team building, goal-setting, collaborative decision making and evaluation.
  • In partnership with Yu Ying's Talent and HR team, use recruitment materials and processes to select high quality talent and ensure we have a strong new teacher/staff onboarding process
Serve as the Elementary Campus Curriculum & Instruction Leader. Duties include:
  • Oversee the development and evaluation of school curriculum. Ensure school curriculum meets appropriate academic standards and fulfills the standards and practices of the IB PYP framework
  • Direct the on-going evaluation and revision, as needed, of curriculum and instructional programs
  • Analyze data and develop and implement plans for instructional improvement growing out of program assessment
  • Oversee student evaluation and student assessment.
  • Oversee the development and enforcement of school culture and behavior management policies in a consistent, respectful manner.
  • Monitor interactions between teachers and parents to resolve classroom issues in conjunction with the Assistant Principal.
Ensure rigorous execution of all Elementary Campus Academic Systems. Duties include:
  • Ensure all day one systems including class lists, master schedule, calendar are in place, well communicated and maintained throughout the year
  • Work with Assistant Principals to manage substitute system
  • Enforce all District laws, codes and policies, maintain adequate records and ensure all compliance deadlines are met
  • Administer District and site discipline, intervention policies and safety programs
  • Develop and administer site budgets and assure proper allocation of funds for instructional and non-instructional equipment and materials
  • Attend IEP, 504 and other meetings as appropriate
  • Work in partnership with members of the operations team on cross functional responsibilities in the areas of attendance, field trips, supply orders, front desk support, meal/snack service, student health and wellness care and safety/security.
  • Work with our Learning Support & Intervention Coordinators to effectively manage our MTSS systems so all students receive effective academic, attendance and SEL interventions
  • Participate on cross functional attendance and mental health teams
  • Oversee the authorization process and daily fidelity to the IB PYP standards and policies.
  • Oversee the accreditation process to the MSA-CESS guidelines and expectations in collaboration with cross-campus senior leadership.
Model Yu Ying's values and champion the school's mission and vision. Duties include:
  • Contribute to the development of annual priorities and goals; monitor and action plan at regular intervals to keep the campus on track
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Yu Ying stakeholders - students, families, staff, faculty, neighbors, partners and Board
  • Serve as the lead campus communicator - craft all core messages and utilize the communications protocols to match organizational voice with personal style!
  • Develop and maintain collegial, collaborative working relationship with the Early Childhood Principal
  • Elevate concerns and address conflict in a respectful, clear, solutions oriented approach
  • Attend, conduct and/or chair a variety of meetings with staff, parents and community
  • In partnership with the Yu Ying's development & external relations team, arrange for campus public relations, special events and achievements and represent the school at various functions
Qualifications
  • Credential/Certification: Teaching Credential, Administrative Credential preferred
  • Education: Masters Degree preferred
  • Experience: Three years successful experience in school leadership
  • An ability to manage organizational change, build coalitions and inspire others
  • A courageous advocate for all students and families who is driven to lead diversity, belonging, inclusion and equity initiatives at Yu Ying
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and organizational planning skills
  • Extraordinary skills to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
  • Positive attitude, collaborative approach and effective change leadership skills for a demanding leadership role at this important growth moment
  • Passion for IB PYP and immersion programs required, experience with one or both models a preference

Terms of Employment: 12 month schedule
  • Working Environment: In-school. The role is based on-site which will result in interaction with students, parents and staff.
