Cardiopulmonary Nurse

Position Summary

The Cardiopulmonary Nurse provides professional nursing care for cardiac and pulmonary patients following standards and practices under the supervision of the Cardiopulmonary Supervisor. This position is responsible for promoting cardiac and pulmonary wellness by helping participants with lifestyle changes to lessen the risk of symptom reoccurrence and to minimize the effects of past cardiac and pulmonary incidents. This role integrates to components of clinician, teacher, consultant, and researcher.

Key Accountabilities

• Assists with the orientation of new participants, responsible for the initial assessment of the participant and assists in the development of the plan of care.
• Reports any significant participant conditions (dysrhythmias, abnormal blood pressure responses, change in participants status to the physician for continuance of care.
• Assess participants' pre, during and post exercise making appropriate referrals and/or recommendations for maintenance of patient health outcomes.
• Communicate regularly with participants' primary physician and/or cardiologist/pulmonologist to provide consistency in clinical care.
• Formulates individualized exercise prescriptions according to participants' exercise response to maintain health status or improvement.
• Initiates ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to Hospital policy.
• Charts and documents assessments and progress.
• Follow department policies and procedures to maintain HIPPA compliance.
• Has clear understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations and develops and follows department policies and procedures.
• Educating patients on cardiovascular and/or pulmonary diseases.

Minimum Qualifications

• State of Nebraska RN License.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Clear understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations
