Description

Leidos is seeking a Senior Paralegal to work on high profile cases in support of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baton Rouge, LA. The Senior Paralegal will work with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), federal law enforcement officers, client agencies and support staff to prepare cases for litigation.

You will review and analyze case material to become familiar with the facts and circumstances of the case and provide assistance when going to trial.

The Senior Paralegal is the key to the success of the case, often being more involved than the case attorney team!

The Senior Paralegal will work in a fast-paced and diverse environment and will have a management team that encourages your career development and growth. 

In this role, you will gain many intangible skills, such as time and task management, critical thinking and problem solving, the ability to communicate complicated problems in a concise manner, as well as solve complex problems using available tools, including Relativity, Case Map, Text Map, and Trial Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Obtains records, documents, and evidence from federal law enforcement agencies, client agencies, and via the legal process.

  • Reviews and analyzes case material to become familiar with the facts and circumstances of the case.

  • Examines, prepares and processes a variety of legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and moderately complex in nature.

  • Maintains, manages, and organizes case material utilizing software, including databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications.

  • Notes deficiencies in the uploading of case materials and missing materials and undertakes inquiries to correct deficiencies.

  • Works with litigation support to resolve any issues related to the intake, processing, and dissemination of discovery.

  • Assists AUSAs in producing discovery to opposing counsel.

  • Organizes and coordinates discovery distribution, including indexes and production logs.

  • Operates electronic systems and court presentation software during court proceedings.

  • Provides assistance to AUSAs in trial preparation by independently compiling trial notebooks, preparing jury instructions, and drafting witness and exhibit lists.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted.

  • Two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required.

  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.

  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.

  • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications including: word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.

  • Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.

  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as the minimum Health and Welfare benefit. Leidos will ensure that all provisions are met through their wages and benefits. The pay for this position will be $23.51/hr.
