Position Description

This job description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job. The description shall not, however, be construed as a complete listing of all miscellaneous, incidental or similar duties which may be required from the employees day-to-day performance.

Provide overall on-site administrative and technical management on construction projects

Position reports to Grading Manager

Grading Manager sets the working hours

This position is classified as salaried

CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30-Hour Safety Certification is required

Successful pre-employment background check for LMC and all military bases is required

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and participation in Drug/Alcohol Free workplace is required

10-Year DMV Report required for driving company vehicles (as applicable) LMC and insurance guidelines

TWIC card for special projects may be required




Position Requirements

• Safety

o Support and comply with company Safety Program, Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace, and Harassment Free Work Environment Program

o Understand and enforce safe work practices and personal protective equipment required for employees


o Set yourself as an example for workplace safety

o Inspect the worksite daily and insure a safe work environment

o Report all accidents and incidents to Safety Manager and Project Manage, regardless of how minor, as soon as possible and assist in investigation

o Responsible for accessible, clean & organized work site

o Ensure all employees receive weekly safety training, properly document and turned in to a Safety Representative

o Ensure all employees are authorized and/or certified as a competent person to perform their job

• Budget Management

o Manager profitability of projects

o Thorough knowledge of project plans and specifications

o Thorough knowledge of types and application of materials required through project completion

o Maintain full knowledge of scope of work

o Read and study job set up and cost reports

o Recognize changes to scope of work & inform Project Manager

• Project Planning and Coordination

o Work with engineers, owners, or sub-contractors to accomplish tasks

o Plan project work with Project Manager

o Schedule project work with Project Manager

o Maintain accurate and up to date “as built” drawings

o Manage quality of work on project

o Manage project field problems

o Order and track material deliveries

o Request inspections

o Receive materials, inventories, store safely. Be accountable for inventory

o Request utility locations

o Coordinate layout & staking

o Maintain ongoing project punch list

• Schedule Management

o Plan one to two days’ work in detail with back up plan

o Plan one week ahead in lesser detail (needs, services, repairs)

o Schedule equipment & material requirements

o Coordinates people needs

o Schedules subcontractors

o Schedule trucking requirements

• Labor Management

o Supervise craft employees and /or sub-contractors to accomplish daily tasks

o Evaluate performance of employees

o Assume responsibility and maintain productivity of craft employees

o Recommend salary increases, promotions, etc

o Resolve personnel problems among crew

o Interview perspective employees and take disciplinary action for problem employees

o Document all violations and notify Project Manager and Safety Manager; recommend and implement corrective actions as required

o Timely evaluation of new hires at 45-day and 90-day increments on proper forms

o Evaluate current employees as directed on at least an annual basis

o Train crewmembers for the next step in their career

o Evaluate potential employees for promotion/demotion

o Create training opportunities for employees

o Share experience and knowledge with crew

o Share with crew overall project plan as well as short-term goals

o Maintain and submit Employee Time Sheets

o Complete and submit Job Reports in detail

o Turn in signed material receipts with job number, cost code, and purchase order number written on receipt

• Communication

o Communicate openly with President, Project Manager, Shop Manager, Equipment Manager, Safety Manager, Human Resources, Admin, other Superintendents, Foreman, and all internal personnel

o Communicate well with owners, engineers, inspectors, and other external customers

o Deal effectively with conflicts with crew members as well as all internal and external customers

• Leadership

o Exhibit leadership qualities and set an example for other crew members to follow

o Ability to communicate and work well others

o Take ownership of project; take charge, make good decisions, avoid excuses

Qualifications and Standards

• Minimum Training and Experience

o Minimum 5 years of construction experience as a Superintendent or equivalent

o Knowledge of principals, methods and standards of the specific function of the designated trade’s area

o Experience in the use and methods of tools and equipment commonly employed with the trade

o Ability to read and understand plans and specification

o Performs work in accordance with standards and specifications

• Physical Requirements

o Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects

o Work involves sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time

o Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to fifty pounds

• Interpersonal Communications

o Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and instructions from supervisors

• Verbal Aptitude

o Requires the ability to follow and receive information and to follow verbal and written instructions.

• Numerical Aptitude

o Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; adding and subtracting totals; multiplying and dividing

• Motor Coordination

o Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using various motorized equipment
