General Scope: Has the skills necessary to perform at least one warehousing function with a minimum of supervision (i.e., shipping, receiving, parts window, etc.).

Position Summary:

• Reads shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.

• Conveys materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas.

• Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.

• Fills requisitions, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to production workers or assembly line.

• Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or carts, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.

• Marks materials with identifying information.

• Opens boxes, crates, and other containers.

• Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed.

• Weighs, counts or measures items for distribution within plant to ensure conformance to company standards.

• Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers.

• Uses computer to observe records.

• Operates fork truck to transport stored items from warehouse to plant or to pick up items from several locations for shipment.

• Prepares boxes, cartons or skids for shipment consistent with proper packaging techniques.

• Assist in maintaining inventory records.

Education: High school education or equivalent or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate or participate in internal/external training programs to obtain the following skills:

• Ability to read two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

• Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

• Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide.

• Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

• Ability to read a tape measure.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Must have a valid driver's license.

• Must be able to operate material handling equipment.
