Job Title: Controls Engineer                                                          Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary range: $80,000 -  $100,000 depending on experience

Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and experienced controls engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems for a wide range of stand-alone and plant-wide applications.

Objectives of this role:

  • Collaborate with engineers, tradesman, technicians, and software developers to integrate control systems into overall process designs.
  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for machines, skid, and plant-wide processes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, such as ISA, IEC, NFPA, UL, IEEE, and project-specific requirements.
  • Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control devices.
  • Set up and integrate network enabled devices and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain control system documentation, including specifications, schematics, user manuals, and cause and effect diagrams.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of control systems to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Stay up to date on advancements in control systems technology and industry best practices.
  • 10-20% Travel requirements are dynamic and depend on project locations.


Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, or related field; preferred.
  • Demonstrate competency one should have after 5 years of experience programming and configuring PLCs and HMIs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric)
  • Proficient in implementing control strategies using ladder logic, structured text, function blocks, and sequential function charts.
  • Experienced in PID tuning and application.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with configuration and troubleshooting variable frequency drives; preferred.
  • Experience with automating industrial belt conveyors; preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA system design and implementation (e.g., Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk SE); preferred.
