Plasser American Corporation is currently seeking experienced Railroad Operator / Maintainer to operate Tamping and Surfacing equipment.

Plasser American Corporation is based in Chesapeake, Virginia. This position travels around North America. You do not to need to live in any specific area. We will fly you to the location of our railroad machinery.

Railroad Operator / Maintainer Accountabilities:

  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer operates Plasser tamping and Surfacing machines to perform the raising, leveling and aligning of the Railroad Track Structure to the desired specifications of the owner and per the precise job specifications and requirements.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer performs the tamping and regulating of ballast machines and other operator’s tasks required for surfacing operations.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer inspects and maintains trucks and equipment on a daily basis including but not limited to any attached apparatuses such as boom, hi-rail gear, tools, etc.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures including the daily equipment safety and maintenance checks.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer performs mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs in the field and or the shop.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer drives machines onto truck trailers and or flat cars
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer adheres to all safety training requirements and be a leader in maintaining a safety-first attitude.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer communicates with customer, contractors and subcontractors to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer will travel 90% of the time within North America is required for this position. You will spend a lot of time away from home, especially during the Spring/Summer months.

Railroad Operator / Maintainer Requirements:

  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer must have familiarity with tamping/surfacing equipment and procedures common to the industry.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer must be a strong communicator across multiple functions.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer must have a valid driver’s license
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer must have or be able to obtain a passport
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer is subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer is subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • Railroad Operator / Maintainer must successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
