About the Position

Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Parking Technician Supervisor. This position supervises, assigns and reviews the work of staff and contractors responsible for maintaining, repairing, and making improvements to city parking facilities and specialized machines and equipment; oversees and participates in all work activities; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.


Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from higher level staff.

Acts as a formal supervisor, exercising direct supervision, including work scheduling, monitoring and formally evaluating employee performance, and participating in the selection of and discipline of employees.

Type of Examination: A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination. Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a city position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date. The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only. The supplemental questions of all qualified applicants will be reviewed for placement on an eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.


ELIGIBLE LIST: You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and remodeling of city and city-serviced parking facilities and parking meters.
  2. Oversees and coordinates, or assists with, the activities of all on-site personnel working with all aspects of parking meters, payment systems, gated revenue control devices, and cash collection and handling. And all related duties such as parts/inventory management, auditing, purchasing, and software diagnostics and downloading of software updates.
  3. Acts as supervisor for designated staff within a department, including interviewing and selecting job applicants, training, overseeing work, and establishing and evaluating appropriate performance standards in accordance with department objectives.
  4. Meets with staff to answer questions, review daily assignments and project status, and provide direction on unique issues or special projects.
  5. Trains assigned employees on maintenance and repair methods related to assigned areas of work; ensures employees adhere to safe work practices; trains staff to handle hazardous chemicals safely; works closely with city safety staff to develop or update safety policies and procedures; coordinates and conducts safety meetings, classes and training for assigned staff.
  6. Researches and recommends new equipment, tools, and supplies. Independently makes new and refill purchases within authorized limits.
  7. Assists in the preparation of specifications and RFPs for projects; participates in meetings with contractors and management staff from the pre-bid process to project completion.
  8. Oversees and coordinates, or assists with, the activities of all on-site personnel working on maintenance or other project, including city staff, contractors and temporary staff.
  9. Facilitates successful delivery of all maintenance and service contracts by monitoring both implementation of new contracts as well as ongoing service delivery. Monitors service delivery and brings to attention any contract issues needing addressing or higher management involvement.
  10. Responds to public or city staff inquiries in a courteous manner; provides information within the area of assignment.
  11. Prepares administrative documentation and reports such as timecards, vehicle reports, scopes of work for contractors, and others as assigned.

Marginal Functions:
  1. Attends and participates in group meetings.
  2. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

Three years of experience in the maintenance and/or parking field. At least one year of supervisory experience over a maintenance function, parking facility, or trades field preferred.

Training:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional specialized training in maintenance, mechanics, or a skilled trade, as well as supervisory courses, is desirable.

License or Certificate

Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.

Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion of an OSHA-30 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Possession of a Flagger certification from the Nevada Department of Transportation within six months of time of appointment, and maintenance thereafter.

Employee must attend training in work zone safety measures as requested by department management.
