Location: Pearl River Plant – Pearl River, MS

Hours of work:
Full-time position with hours Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (Work outside of normal hours will be necessary on occasion)


The Plant Process Engineer IV provides process engineering technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and various corporate departments. The Plant Process Engineer IV is responsible for a variety of engineering activities that include identification and initiation of plant improvement projects, support of plant capital projects, technical support to production teams, resolution of all technical regulatory issues, and development/presentation of technical training. The Plant Process Engineer IV performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products/processes/techniques and assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests/products/equipment. This position coordinates planning, organization, and implementation of engineering projects within constraints of specific objectives and target dates as specified by management. The successful candidate must manage multiple assignments while working closely with other staff members, production teams, maintenance personnel, and safety and environmental personnel.

The Plant Process Engineer IV is responsible for working with senior plant management and corporate engineering resources to determine appropriate operational policies to optimize process parameters to achieve the most profitable production rates, quality, and process economics possible. Monitoring of the production processes and driving suggestions for improvement of plant operations is an important part of this responsibility. In addition, the Plant Process Engineer IV must work with the plant management to ensure that plant operations staff are making the most of the improvement suggestions, and to understand what changes may be necessary to realize the most benefit from them.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Participates in production team activities. Provides guidance to Operations regarding process conditions and product campaign start-ups and transitions
  • Monitoring of the production processes and driving suggestions for improvement of plant operations is an important part of this responsibility
  • Required to be a part of the Manufacturing/CCC management team at the Pearl River Plant and is expected to exhibit a high degree of cooperation/teamwork to maintain the most efficient operation of the plant
  • Must be flexible in work activities to support cross-functional department and position assignments
  • Responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in understanding and optimizing the process economics of the plant
  • Provides coverage for Production, Operations, and Maintenance in Plant Manager's absence
  • Responsible for all line operations when serving in this capacity
  • This position requires the incumbent to be more than an individual contributor since it involves ongoing responsibilities for leading, motivating, and training people
  • Develops and modifies operational training presentations for the production staff
  • Interviews operators to understand where existing procedures may be improved or streamlined and works with plant management, engineering, and safety representatives to ensure that new procedures are compliant with good safety and engineering practices
  • Develops a high level of technical proficiency in the manufacturing of activated carbon and stays current with chemical engineering skills
  • Participates in the preparation of process reports, regulatory reports and process manufacturing instructions
  • Provides technical guidance and technical support for establishing raw material and final product specifications
  • Initiates and obtains approval for cost reduction projects
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the design, installation and start-up of new projects at the plant

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required (Chemical Engineering degree is preferred)
  • 5-7 years of plant/manufacturing experience is required
  • 10+ years of manufacturing development/optimization experience is preferred
