Purpose

How does the position contribute to the success of the operation, division and company?

The Sawmill/Planer General Labor role works in the fast-paced, automated sawmill/planer roles and will be in charge of running and maintaining the various equipment of the facility as assigned, equipment such as the edger, trimmer, re-saw, packaging, chop saws, and stacker equipment. Successful candidates will be good team members and hard workers and be able to learn to operate multiple pieces of equipment.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures What measures or metrics will the individual be measured on and what level of performance is required? Other duties may be assigned.

· Monitors equipment and lumber flow for issues that would interrupt production.

· Works with maintenance personnel to perform light preventative maintenance.

· Maintains a clean and organized work area.

· Walk and stand for long periods of time, bend, twist, kneel, stoop and squat.

· Ascend and descend stairs/ladders.

· Abide by all safety/environmental policies and procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Certification

· High school diploma or GED

· Production experience a plus

· 1 year of experience working in manufacturing

· Sawmill experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Safety oriented

· Ability to learn computer systems

· Must be a safety minded individual who is comfortable working in a production environment.

· Lifting and physical activity is required for this position, must be able to move boards and wood pieces.

Reporting Line and Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports to Sawmill or Planer Coordinator

No supervisory responsibilities.

What working conditions or physical functions are normally required to perform the essential functions of the job?

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
