JOB SUMMARY

The BRC Storage Supervisor will work with mutant vehicle, created art, trailer, and utility trailer customers regarding enrollment, storage, visits, and other needs at the 360.  This role will work closely with the Placement Manager to understand the status of requesting customers prior to making contracts. This position will oversee the tracking, inspection, and maintaining records of vehicles and trailers in the program, working with the DMV to understand all vehicles' current standing with the department. The BRC Storage Supervisor will also manage a team of volunteers and staff at The 360 during build week, event week, and strike week of the event. Finally, the BRC Storage Supervisor will assist with all administrative functions associated with the BRC Storage Program, mutant vehicle branch. This position will be located on The 360 for operations and will need to travel to the property from Black Rock City for work during playa ops.  

 

This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Gerlach, NV running from August to September, 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Fleet Tracking (30%)   

                                                                                              

  • Maintain a list of vehicles along with pertinent information about their owners, DMV history, and 360 visit history.  
  • Facilitate communications between the DMV, BRC Storage Program, The 360, and other departments as necessary to understand each vehicle and its storage needs. 
  • Oversee ticketing requirements, DMV requirements, and other BRC operational processes as vehicles arrive and depart The 360. 
  • Create a clear, concise after-burn report that tracks each vehicle’s history throughout the season.

 

Participant Support (20%)

  • Provide thorough knowledge of the DMV requirements and regulations and assist in creative solutions to ensure compliance. 
  • Manage MV Storage Participant visits and requests to visit the 360.
  • Provide customer support for all visitors including but not limited to coordinating resources (access to electricity, housing options, connection to Rehab services, and more).
  • Work with program participants to ensure safe vehicle parking in the assigned spaces.
  • Provide feedback and solutions to owners about any complications with moving or handling mutant vehicles.

 

Yard Management (20%)

  • Organize and prepare the yard during the event for the return of vehicles post-event.
  • Map the yard and assist in the immediate post-event transportation by participants for off season work.
  • Work with the The 360 team to ensure a properly designed yard that meets all county and BMP requirements.

 

Team Management (20%)

  • Train volunteers and staff in NVO processes to appropriately respond to the needs of the department and customers.
  • Remain on-call during the event to respond to The 360 if volunteers and staff need support.
  • Be a role model for the volunteer and paid staff and create a sense of community.
  • Ensure that all team members are provided with the necessary OSHA approved safety equipment.
  • Establish and maintain a clean and safe worksite while utilizing the necessary OSHA approved safety equipment.

 

Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%)

  • Perform various other duties as assigned.
  • Be familiar with and act in accordance with Burning Man’s staff policies.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Handbook and NVO Manager’s Manual.


 

LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation – Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.
  • Teaching – Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff. Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested. Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community.
  •  Mentoring – Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages, and inspires their team.
  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate.


 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  • Ability to manage a shop inventory and check-out process of materials or tools to enable all authorized people to work effectively without impacting others’ workflow. 
  • Proficient ability to tow and park a towed item.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Understanding the DMV, ticketing, and other BRC operational protocols and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Google products and workspace.
  • Understanding of basic tools, construction materials, PPE, and practices.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds) safely; willing to get dirty.
  • Able to relocate to work seasonally in Gerlach, Nevada.
  • Communicates professionalism verbally, through written correspondence, and using 2 way radios. 
  • Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards.
  • Strongly analyzes and takes a creative approach toward new processes for the department.
  • Instills and applies order and cleanliness to the work environment.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Handbook, Ranch Protocols, and the 360 S.O.P.



 

Preferred

  • Ability to service a wide range of small air tools, two and four cycle engines, generators, air compressors, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Calendly reservation system. 
  • Knowledge of First-Aid.
  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with the mutant vehicles they could be working on.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.


 

COMPENSATION: 

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $18 to $21 per hour.

This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance. This will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
