JOB SUMMARY

The BRC Storage Shift Lead will work with a large group of volunteers to staff The 360 during the build, event, and strike weeks. This position will be the main point of contact for the pickup and dropoff of mutant vehicles and other forms of storage (other than containers) located at The 360.  Finally, this position will be the escalation point for issues experienced by BRC Storage Program participants at The 360 during BRC. This position will be located on The 360 for operations and will need to travel to the property from Black Rock City for work during playa ops.  

 

This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt role, based in Black Rock City, Nevada running from August to September, 2024.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Team Management (35%)

  • Track volunteer team attendance against the schedule created by the BRC Storage Supervisor.
  • Train volunteers in all processes to appropriately respond to the needs of the department and customers.
  • Ensure that the crew is fed and receives breaks, and monitor the general mood and condition of the crew.
  • Report all issues to the BRC Storage management.

 

Participant Support (35%)

  • Provide 5-star service to the program participants, ensuring their needs are met throughout the pickup and dropoff process.
  • Provide customer support for all visitors.
  • Work with program participants to ensure safe vehicle parking in the assigned spaces.
  • Provide feedback and solutions to owners about any complications with moving or handling mutant vehicles.
  • Provide support to BRC Storage 360 Volunteers for issue escalation.

 

Fleet Tracking (20%)    

                                                                                             

  • Update pickup and dropoff lists, ensuring that we record the WHO and the WHEN of those interactions.  Report up through the BRC Storage Supervisor.
  • Oversee ticketing requirements, DMV requirements, and other BRC operational processes as vehicles arrive and depart The 360. 

 

Other Functions and Responsibilities (10%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be familiar with and act according to Burning Man’s staff policies.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Handbook and NVO Manager Manual.
     

 

LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • Documentation – Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.
  •  Mentoring – Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages, and inspires their team.
  • Learning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes. Participates in conferences, forums, and networking events, where appropriate.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  • 2+ years towing and parking towed items.
  • 2+ years managing or supervising crews.
  • Understanding of the DMV, ticketing, and other BRC operational protocols and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Google products and workspace.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds) safely; willing to get dirty.
  • Able to relocate to work seasonally in Gerlach, Nevada.
  • Honest and ethical with a dedication to the Burning Man principles and behavioral standards.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Handbook, Ranch Protocols, and the 360 S.O.P.


 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of First-Aid.
  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with the mutant vehicles they could be working on.

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.

 

COMPENSATION: 

Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated pay rate for this position is $16 to $17 per hour.


 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Off-playa:  This position requires periods of heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. This position will be physically demanding and requires individuals with good physical health and endurance. This will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
