JOB TITLE: Swim Instructor
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or as assigned
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming lessons in accordance with the design provided by the Richard Kane YMCA. Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. All staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all members, participants, and employees by interpreting and enforcing all policies established by the YMCA.
- Obtain & maintain all required certifications, assuring that there is no lapse of certification
- Carry out all swimming instruction following the curriculum and standards of the Richard Kane YMCA .
- Accurately demonstrate progressive swimming skills
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Accurately document participant skill, achievement and attendance.
- Enforce swimming pool safety rules and properly report and treat injuries.
- Be alert, friendly and responsive to participants, parents and co-workers.
- Demonstrate relationship building skills in all interactions.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
Required:
- At least 15 years of age
- Promote swimming as a lifetime sport for everyone
- Each lesson shall consist of a combination of the five components of YMCA Swim Lessons: personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, personal growth and rescue.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid Or Able to complete and pass Certification course and test
- Bilingual abilities are a plus
