The Fleet Inventory Technician assumes responsibility for the Fleet Division parts room including monitoring the service, and repairs of specialized and light equipment/tools. In addition, this position requires the ordering and/or disposing of parts, and maintenance of the parts inventory on the computerized inventory control system.


A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  1. Maintain equipment and tools in proper working order. Conduct quarterly inventory
  2. Perform routine and scheduled maintenance on all special tools and shop equipment to include diagnostic and calibrating systems. (i.e., air compressor, backup generator, forklift etc.)
  3. Follow proper storage, maintenance, and use techniques according to appropriate equipment manuals.
  4. Responsible for acquisition, stocking and distribution of repair parts for fleet maintenance. Uses work management software to accurately record orders made, inventory levels, received goods, and issued goods for activities related to fleet maintenance.
  5. Maintains working knowledge of industry supplier and vendors of commonly purchased goods. Communicates with vendors both orally and it writing as needed regarding the determination of equipment service, status of orders, and scheduling deliveries.
  6. Develops and prepares work management reports such as product evaluations, usage volumes, pricing trends and inventory turnover rates.
  7. Process return orders, damaged goods and warranty claims. Reconcile payment actions on returned goods and warranty claims.
  8. Oversee the storage, issuance and return of tools and equipment with the Fleet Tool Room. This includes inventory, identification and issuance and return of items. Conducts daily inspection of tool room inventory providing timely reports of missing and/or non-working items. Perform rudimentary tool/equipment maintenance and calibrations.
  9. Coordinate with the Fleet Superintendent on needed repair, calibration, and/or replacement of non-working items.
  10. Assist with the inventory control of city fuels as assigned. Coordinate with the Fleet Superintendent to conduct onsite readings of fuel storage tank levels, inspection of fuel island dispensers and administering of fuel tank leak tests, and quality control of checks of supplied fuels.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED is required. Related technical degree or college courses in a related field is preferred.
  • CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas Class B Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement within 90 days of appointment. Underground Fuel Storage Tank A/B Certification is required within 12 months of appointment.
