Agronomy Intern

Job Summary:

The Agronomy Intern will support Agronomists and Breeders in all aspects of preparing seed for planting, breeding and agronomy trials, the management of trial locations and the harvest of breeding and agronomy trials which may be conducted on farms or in on-site growth rooms. In addition, the Agronomy Technician will support post-harvest activities as needed by the Breeding organization.

Essential Functions:

• Help maintain all farming equipment as instructed by Agronomy staff
• Assist breeding and agronomy staff with seed cleaning, seed counting, seed packing and packaging seed for shipment
• Follow the direction of breeding and agronomy staff to implement annual field trial plans
• Assist staff in day to day operations and maintenance of Great Falls facility
• Assist in the planting, maintenance, watering and harvest of growth room projects
• Assist in the unloading, storage and inventory of growth materials (soils/planting pots/etc)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with either agronomy, farming or horticulture
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
• Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Education and Experience:

• High School degree required
• Previous farming or agronomy experience preferred
• Previous mechanical experience preferred maintaining farm equipment, industrial equipment and/or vehicles preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times
• Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
• Requires frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials
