Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the Shop Supervisor will have the responsibility to provide direction to the shop floor personnel, monitor the quality of work, ensure employees receive the proper training, and perform basic personnel functions. Position will oversee and assist with the daily Plant operations including process and procedure improvement.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
•\tDemonstrate and instill the company’s Core Values throughout the organization.
•\tEnsure a safe working environment is maintained at all times by following and promoting safety policies and procedures.
•\tIn collaboration with other support functions, strive to do things right the first time.
•\tDevelop and maintain training programs to ensure all personnel have the necessary skills to perform their duties safely and productively.
•\tCommunicate clear expectations regarding safety, quality and productivity to shop personnel and keep them informed of matters pertaining to their job.
•\tMonitor performance to expectations and redirect as necessary
•\tProvide guidance and direction to the shop floor personnel within their team
•\tPlan ahead for upcoming work (people, equipment, workspace, etc.) by reviewing drawings and other necessary job requirements
•\tEnsure equipment and tools are in proper safe working order and available for use when needed; isolate and send for repair anything that is unsuitable for use.
•\tActively participate in production planning meetings.
•\tContinuously evaluate the work center layout for improved throughput, improved productivity and reduced waste.
•\tCollaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to specify requirements for new equipment and assist in the procurement of such.
•\tPerform timely evaluations of probationary and progressionary employees.
•\tAdminister discipline according to Plant Rules when required.
•\tSupport peer Shop Supervisors as needed.
Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Education/Experience
•\tHigh School diploma or equivalent required
•\tVocational/Trade school certificate and/or Associates degree preferred
•\tTwo (2) years minimum of leadership experience in a heavy metal fabrication environment is required; five (5) years experience is preferred.
Skills
•\tExcellent organizational skills
•\tSkilled ability to read and interpret drawings
•\tEffective oral and written communication skills
•\tStrong interpersonal communication skills, especially related to problem-solving and conflict resolution
•\tAbility to manage time effectively
•\tA bias towards making decisions and taking action; self-aware enough to know when to ask for help
•\tAbility to work independently with limited direct supervision
•\tProficient with basic computer use
•\tCapability to teach others in the work scope assigned
•\tAdaptable to changing work plans upon additional information without undue frustration
Knowledge
•\tStrong knowledge of plant and manufacturing operations
•\tKnowledge of PC and basic PC Software (email, spreadsheets, documents)
•\tExcellent mechanical aptitude
•\tKnowledge of Human Resources practices
Licenses
•\tValid driver’s license and proof of insurability required
