Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Serves as a liaison between the Medical Receptionist, Medical Assistant, Scheduling, and Billing and Collections departments to facilitate interdepartmental communication, complete special projects, function as an additional team member to the assigned department, and coordinate consistent training/development practices.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Greet and communicate with patients in polite, prompt & helpful manner. Provide necessary instructions and direction in accordance with established guidelines.
  2. Identifies the patients and/or providers' needs, clarifies information, researches every issue, and provides solutions and/or alternatives in order to avoid unnecessary call transfers or escalations.
  3. Update patient information, provide any necessary forms needing completion, obtain medical records, updated insurance information, schedule/cancel/reschedule patients, etc. and records all communication and follow-up efforts in the patient's notes.
  4. Maintains knowledge of providers' scheduling preferences following scheduling protocol and prepare appointment schedules to provide physicians with accurate list of patient workload.
  5. Effectively uses the current operating system for Electronic Medical Records, appointment scheduling and registration, and the collection of patient balances dependent on the role or area currently assigned.
  6. Assist provider and clinical staff with patient care. Serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Medical Assistants including phlebotomy, assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, care and maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, assisting providers and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.
  7. Responsible for working with patients regarding their balance and billing questions. Answering phones and taking payments when patients call the office. Post person, credit card, and pharmacy dispensing payments into Practice Management Systems.
  8. Maintain staff compliance with HIPAA guidelines and protection of PHI.
  9. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Clinical Skills include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates competency and knowledge of Medical Assistant techniques.
  • Identifies vital patient care needs and prioritizes accordingly.
  • Coordinates patient care with other team members.
  • Keeps work areas clean, tidy and properly stocked, free of soiled equipment and supplies.
  • Reports abnormal or unexpected outcomes or observations to RN and/or physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Phlebotomy techniques.
  • Assists provider with procedures as directed.
  • Demonstrates awareness of protocol for malfunctioning equipment and repair.
  • Demonstrates skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment.
  • Transports patients to and from and within the facility.
  • Assists with preoperative patient preparation and postoperative patient discharge.
  • Cleans, restocks supplies as assigned.
Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Education or GED equivalent. Some college education or advanced medical training preferred but not required. Minimum 1 year of scheduling, insurance/collections, or direct patient care experience. Medical Assistant /Phlebotomist highly preferred for this role.


REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current BLS Certification.

Monday-Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM
