Description: Overlake School is hiring an Upper School science teacher for fall semester whose responsibilities will include teaching 9th grade biology and 10th grade chemistry. The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years of science teaching experience at the secondary school level, with an emphasis on chemistry or biology, an advanced degree in science and/or education, and a passion for working with high school students. In addition, the successful candidate has worked collaboratively on curriculum and assessment.

Teaching Responsibilities and Duties: Teach two section of the 9th grade biology course Life on Our Planet and two sections of the 10th grade chemistry course Earth's Chemical Systems; lead an Upper School advisory (homeroom) four times a week; hold office hours three times a week; sponsor a club. Teachers are also required to attend meetings with the department, the division, and the whole faculty.

Salary: $59,660 - $112,011 Annualized, dependent on education and experience

Successful candidates are teachers who inspire students to love science and scientific inquiry. Further, strong candidates must demonstrate the following:

· Bachelor's degree in science education or a related field

· Relevant teaching experience

· Computer literacy and technological proficiency, with interest in incorporating technology into the classroom

· A desire to put cultural competency at the heart of their pedagogy and skill at working with a diverse population in an inclusive and equitable community

· Belief in the critical importance of diversity in the life of the school and excitement about working to build and maintain a classroom that honors diversity of opinion and practice

· Commitment to modeling and exhibiting high standards of scholarship

· Capacity to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues

· Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside of the department and grade-level teams

· Ability to pass required background checks
