Overview


We have an opening for a Maintenance & Repair Technician to join our Kaman Composite Structures team in Wichita, KS. This role is responsible for the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of products using composite repairs, and other composite assembly as well as Bench Mechanic work performing production processes required to trim, finish and produce quality parts on time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

This position may involve knowledge of confidential information. Such information will be handled with

the utmost discretion.

MRO Responsibilities

    1. Read/review drawings, parts lists, engineering deviations and change incorporations and planning instructions.
    2. Interrogate CAD/Catia models for engineering specifications and dimensional data.
    3. Perform simple abrasion, scarf, step, and taper sanding.
    4. Trim, assemble, and finish each composite piece.
    5. Scarf back damaged areas exercising caution to not damage underlying honeycomb core/plies.
    6. Adhere to FAR part 145 to assure compliance to standards.
    7. Inspect components to ensure they meet specifications.
    8. Maintain equipment and tools.
    9. Document work according to company guidelines in paper and electronic formats.
    10. Perform any repairs, rework, functional checks and the incorporation of authorized changes as outlined by engineering or lead.
    11. Follow all Environmental Health and Safety protocols.

Bench Mechanic Responsibilities:

    1. Deburrs parts as required.
    2. Cleans parts as required.
    3. Rough trims parts as required.
    4. Uses the bandsaw on parts as required.
    5. Routes parts as required.
    6. Sands parts as required.
    7. Bonds parts as required.
    8. Uses the tablesaw on parts as required.
    9. Uses the drill on parts as required.
    10. Rivets parts as required.
    11. Performs handwork on parts as required.
    12. Reads blueprints to perform required work.
    13. Works from planning with minimum help from the lead or supervisor.

General Responsibilities:

    1. Assists in moving parts and tools from one area to another as required.
    2. Assists in the training of new employees.
    3. Maintains awareness of production schedules.
    4. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
    5. Reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
    6. Maintains highest standards of quality and quantity.
    7. Records required information on planning.
    8. Participate in Kaizen events.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor or manager, in addition to the

essential functions listed above.


Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Safety awareness of powered hand tools, down draft tables and ovens.
  2. Able to stand for extended periods.
  3. Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, schematics, engineering dispositions and instructions.
  4. Proficient with composite tools and techniques, such as Pre-preg and wet lay-up.
  5. Familiarity with standard repair manuals (SRM’s).
  6. Fundamental Basics of Composites:

a. Introduction to Composites (Composite Applications)
b. Composite Materials.
c. Composite Manufacturing.
d. Composite Fabrication (Finish Trim/Assembly).
e. Composite Inspection (Ultrasonic Nondestructive Inspection (NDI).
f. Composite Repair (Hot Bonding, Electrical Bonding, Bolted Joint).

Education and Experience

  1. High school degree or equivalent required.
  2. Airframe License required, A&P License preferred.
  3. At least one year of experience working with composite material repairs, required.
  4. Experience working with fiberglass-reinforced epoxy, carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy, core and other composite materials, preferred.

Work Authorization

Must qualify as a U.S. Person as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) in order

to access export-controlled technology.

Required Safety Training

  1. Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  2. Attend required safety and environmental training, as determined by the EH&S office.

General: Maintain personal productivity and quality standards as determined by supervision. Follow standard departmental/company practices and procedures as outlined by management. Maintain area in a clean and orderly condition.
