Substitute Teacher

The Substitute Teacher ensures that the events of the school day and staff interactions with students are geared to promote the physical, social, behavioral, academic, and emotional development of the students at Hope Learning Academy, as well as that the educational routines created to provide functional and age-appropriate activities are followed in an environment consistent with meeting the safety and health needs of each student.

Substitute Teacher Job Duties:

  • Oversee daily classroom activities and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as required throughout daily schedule.
  • Supervise classroom paraprofessionals throughout implementation of programs, schedules, and activities.
  • Ensure paraprofessionals complete daily required documentation for each student.
  • Complete required reports and other necessary documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Utilize appropriate materials, devices, and equipment necessary for educational activities.
  • Foster a positive, professional atmosphere that is educationally stimulating for students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Must hold or attain Substitute Teaching licensure for Illinois.
  • Successful background clearance, physical, agility test, and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand, walk, grasp, reach, stoop, crouch, crawl, and run.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in an education or human services related field.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working in a classroom setting.
