Introduction

The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is currently seeking talented and highly motivated candidates who are looking to work in a diverse, exciting, and fast paced work environment and have a strong desire to help Loudoun County residents obtain public benefits and strive toward self-sufficiency. Multiple positions are available and will be located at our Leesburg and Sterling offices.
The Department of Family Services administers a wide variety of programs and services that assist children, youth, families, individuals with disabilities, and older adults with basic supports and medical needs as well as services to protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. All services are delivered under state and federal mandates or under local initiatives that seek to improve family stability, help families achieve safe and affordable housing, and increase self-sufficiency. Job Summary

These positions are responsible for determining eligibility for complex Public Assistance Programs, to include Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medical Assistance Programs, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families and Refugee Assistance programs by independently conducting interviews with applicants, requesting appropriate documentation, applying applicable policy, and completing eligibility determinations timely.
These positions may be assigned to the Intake team and/or the Ongoing Case Management team and will be responsible for taking timely action on reported changes and completing thorough case documentation. Cases assigned to these positions are complex in nature and work is completed with minimal oversight. These positions are responsible for being a resource to other Public Benefits Specialists and providing back up coverage to supervisors.

The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Knowledge of automated systems related to program area and job role.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of families, children, and adult public assistance programs.
  • Knowledge of casework theory and practice.
  • Skill in conducting interviews to gather pertinent information related to the determination of eligibility for public assistance programs.
  • Skill in providing appropriate and effective case management for those applying for or receiving public assistance programs.
  • Skill in communicating.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in understandable terms, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients, co-workers, staff, other professionals, officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply complex policy appropriately in determining eligibility.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field; four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Public Benefits policy knowledge and experience processing SNAP, Medical Assistance, TANF, and Refugee Assistance applications and renewals.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Job Contingencies:

  • Successful candidate will pass pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, CPS, and DMV.
  • Valid driver's license

Special Requirements:
  • These positions may be located at our Leesburg or Sterling office and may be assigned and required to work at an alternate work site(s) to carry out duties that support the needs of the County.
  • The successful candidate may be required to perform work that involves crisis situations and is required to make decisions involving people, resources, and property.
