Intro

The Midwest Patrol Division of General Security Services Corporation (GSSC) is currently accepting applications for its highly specialized Shuttle Services Position, for the Maritime ports. These highly trained security professionals serve on the front line of protection for our maritime ports throughout Lake Superior and the Silver Bay community. Shifts Available:

This unique position serves as a shuttle support driver for security and vessel staff needing shuttle to and from dock areas and adjacent areas of interest within the secured area of the port. Hours vary based upon vessel schedules but typically are between 6 a.m. – 3 p.m. and/or 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.


Wages/Compensation:

This position has paid training and a wage range of $16.00 per hour, with opportunities for advancement after completion of required training.


Maritime Port Security Professional Job Responsibilities:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job responsibilities.

  • Provide Vehicle Shuttle services from dock to other areas of the port for security and vessel personnel
  • Maintain safe driving practices and vehicle care procedures as required
  • Provides vehicle escorts and traffic control functions as required
  • Remain on “stand bye” and readily accessible to respond when called upon for shuttle services
  • Performs roving foot patrol and escorts, including over uneven surfaces and stairs
  • Enforces all required security policies and procedures pursuant to the facility security plan
  • Confirms TWIC card requirements for all persons entering property
  • Identifies authorization of vehicles and people entering port property and restricted areas
  • Obtains and documents required information in maintaining accurate Access Control Logs
  • Provides directions and instructions to visitors, vendors and contractors
  • Performs authorization and inspections as required for vendors, contractors, vehicles, baggage and containers
  • Performs guard desk duty, monitoring entrances and exits
  • Performs emergency communication procedures as required
  • Follows notification and call-out protocols in Port Security incidents
  • Maintains proper key control at all times
  • Communicates openly with facility management and employees
  • Participates in required security drills and exercise
  • Promptly processes routine paperwork
  • Create a positive working environment and strong teamwork
  • Ensures compliance with all GSSC policies and procedures, federal regulations, state statutes, and specifications per client contracts
  • All other duties, as assigned

Maritime Port Security Professional Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be have clean and valid driver’s license / background
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • A US Citizen or Alien lawfully authorized to work I the United States
  • Must pass State & Federal background checks and drug screen
  • Ability to meet and maintain applicable state, county, and municipal licensing requirements
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), administrative, customer service and organizational skills
  • Must successfully complete all company mandated training
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking
  • Ability to project a professional and positive attitude while maintaining confidentiality
  • Must possess a TWIC card or obtain one within one month (paid for by GSSC)

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

  • Seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly.
  • Safely operate a company owned motor vehicle.
  • Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to push, pull or drag and adult to safety from hazardous situations.
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
