Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council is a non-profit organization formed by the Native American Tribes of Wisconsin.  We serve all WI tribes by providing administration of grant-funded programs either directly or with sub grants. Project Director - Wisconsin Native American Tobacco Network (WNATN)

 

Position Summary:

Identify Tribal commercial tobacco control issues, develop strategies and implement commercial tobacco prevention and control programs within Tribal communities. Work toward improving the quality of life for Tribal members through education, program development and implementation relative to traditional and sacred use of tobacco; commercial and recreational use of tobacco including vaping; prevention of commercial tobacco use among youth; commercial tobacco use and pregnancy; cessation with youth and adults; exposure to environmental tobacco smoke; and commercial tobacco-related disparities. Daily attendance is an essential job function. Frequent travel is required.


 Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with participating Tribes in the effective execution of goals and objectives of the program. Develop necessary work plans, ensure service contracts with tribes are fully executed, provide technical assistance and guidance to Tribes as requested, assure compliance through proper monitoring and reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Tribal representatives to plan, coordinate, and facilitate regular WNATN meetings.
  • Attend regular program meetings (via video teleconferencing) with state program officers and other pertinent commercial tobacco control groups.
  • Collaborate with other GLITC programs to continuously improve the services provided to Native American families and to develop a strong referral network.
  • Maintain program administrative structure to ensure effective execution of program goals and objectives, while also maintaining fiscal responsibility through accurate recordkeeping. This will include formulating and administering program budgets; approve expenditures for payment via accounting vouchers; perform tasks related to other financial reporting systems if necessary; and seek additional funding sources to support long-term sustainability.
  • Develop presentations and associated activities in a culturally aligned manner.
  • Disseminate resource information related to commercial tobacco cessation services and other health service programs to Tribal members.
  • Present and/or participate at pow wows, community events, conferences and meetings about issues relating to traditional and commercial tobacco use.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in ongoing networking activities to remain current on the availability of health and human services available to Native Americans.
  • Assure that all services are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Participate on various committees both within and external to the organization as deemed necessary and appropriate to the position.
  • Attend all training sessions and meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend technical conferences, seminars, workshops and other educational events to remain current on technological and informational advances.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

 

This is a full-time salary/exempt opportunity with a primary worksite of Lac du Flambeau, WI.  This is not a remote position, but it does require frequent travel for the purposes of attending community and program related activities. This position has a salary range of $57,000 - $61,000 annually (based on experience) with benefits including Annual/Personal Leave, Holiday Pay, Health, Dental, Life, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 401(k) Retirement Plan.  Background check and drug screen are required before employment.

 

Qualifications:

An equivalent combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered. Required: Knowledge and respect of traditional uses of tobacco within Native American culture. Ability to communicate responsively and effectively with diverse age and racial groups. Minimum three years of experience in health and human services. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a health and human service field. Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and/or not-for-profit agency. Grant writing and funding experience. Individual must possess: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and appearance; problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; self-motivation skills; ability to work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people; speak in front of groups. Individuals must be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving and use basic mathematical skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel.
