Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children, and families in three main areas:
  • Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Migrant Seasonal Head Start, and Child Development Center.

MSHS Teacher Aide Floater

Areas of Responsibility: Assist the education team to implement the education and family engagement objectives through daily operation of the classroom in accordance with Dept. of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Head Start Performance Standards, Nebraska state childcare licensing, and CAPWN policies & procedures.

Major Duties:

  1. Assist the education team to establish a classroom structure implementing program curriculum to fidelity and developmentally appropriate practices.
  2. Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing educational environment that ensures a quality child development program.
  3. Assist other education staff in the daily operation of classroom in the teacher’s absence.
  4. Assist in the effective use and maintenance of materials, supplies, equipment, facilities and grounds.
  5. Provide childcare at parent meetings, conferences, etc. as requested.
  6. Maintain standards of confidentiality regarding program, children, families, and staff.
  7. Translate communication between teacher, child and family, using family’s primary language, when appropriate.
  1. Engage in respectful interactions with parents and community.
  2. Engage in regular communication and information sharing with other education staff in classroom.
  1. Recruit eligible children for the program to ensure full enrollment.
  2. Encourage community involvement and support for the program.
  3. Participate and contribute to a quality program through team meetings and goals and program assessment

Working Conditions:

  • Classroom 95%
  • Paperwork, planning and training 5%
  • Will work some evenings and weekends for meetings and training.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel for training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must complete health physical upon entry to program and yearly health screenings.
  • Must complete TB titer and DTAP vaccination or show proof of completion.
  • Must be able to move about, getting up and down from floor play with children.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Physically able to perform job.

Minimum Qualifications:

Grade 7:

  1. Age 17 or above – 17-year-old employees will not be left alone with children.
  2. Basic level of computer knowledge.
  3. Experience in working with families from various ethnic backgrounds is preferred.
  4. Current Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED card or must be able to acquire within three months.

Grade 8:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements above;
  2. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  3. Age 18 or above
  4. Must obtain a Child Development Associates credential within 24 months of hire

Grade 9:

  1. Meet the minimum requirements above;
  2. Current Child Development Associates credential.
