MECHANIC
Job Summary:
The Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for motor vehicles in the company’s fleet.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, garbage trucks, and other motor vehicles.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
- Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.
- Plans and establishes schedule to complete repairs and maintenance.
- Keeps shop equipment operating and available for use by following operating instructions and preventive maintenance.
- Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reviewing and understanding updated technical and regulation publications.
- Maintains vehicle records and vehicle maintenance records.
- Maintains a clean work environment, shop, and work area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
- Ability to read and understand service and repair manuals.
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field preferred.
- One year of related experience preferred.
Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with odors present.
- Must possess a valid state-issued class B CDL driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, pulling, precision manual dexterity.
- Must be able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders, work from various heights including making repairs on top of commercial trucks and equipment.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all-weather conditions.
