Summary

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in the care and education of the group of children.. As a member of the Magic Mountain Children's Center teaching team the Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing curriculum, engaging with families, observing and recording children's progress, as well as maintain a code of conduct that supports the program mission.

Duties

Responsibilities
  • Helps plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities for children daily including music, language, math, science, art, dramatic play, cooking, dance and movement activities
  • Ensures that children are adequately supervised
  • Promotes critical thinking and problem solving
  • Promotes a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities, and bases projects on the interests of the children
  • Acts without bias and projects sensitivity towards cultural diversity
  • Promotes independence, cooperation and positive self-esteem and self-concept

Administrative
  • Observes, records and communicates the development of children
  • Keeps the classroom teacher and Executive Director informed of issues and events pertaining to the program and/or children
  • Keeps track of the children's attendance
  • Assures that the center is kept neat and clean

Communication
  • Provides parents with information about their child's experience for the day
  • Treats parents with respect, equally and as partners


Requirements

  • An Assistant Teacher is at least 18 years of age and is a high school graduate or has completed a GED and meets one of the following qualifications:
  • A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder 1 or 2 Certificate
  • A Current CDA
  • A State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or childhood education
  • Completion of Fundamentals of Early Childhood Professionals
  • Completion of a 3 Credit college course in Child or Human Development or a 3 Credit college course in school age care.
  • One year of experience working with young children
  • Ability to relate well with children
  • Understanding of curriculum development for the age group assigned to
