Summary

Duties
Responsibilities
- Helps plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities for children daily including music, language, math, science, art, dramatic play, cooking, dance and movement activities
- Ensures that children are adequately supervised
- Promotes critical thinking and problem solving
- Promotes a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities, and bases projects on the interests of the children
- Acts without bias and projects sensitivity towards cultural diversity
- Promotes independence, cooperation and positive self-esteem and self-concept
Administrative
- Observes, records and communicates the development of children
- Keeps the classroom teacher and Executive Director informed of issues and events pertaining to the program and/or children
- Keeps track of the children's attendance
- Assures that the center is kept neat and clean
Communication
- Provides parents with information about their child's experience for the day
- Treats parents with respect, equally and as partners
Requirements
- An Assistant Teacher is at least 18 years of age and is a high school graduate or has completed a GED and meets one of the following qualifications:
- A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder 1 or 2 Certificate
- A Current CDA
- A State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or childhood education
- Completion of Fundamentals of Early Childhood Professionals
- Completion of a 3 Credit college course in Child or Human Development or a 3 Credit college course in school age care.
- One year of experience working with young children
- Ability to relate well with children
- Understanding of curriculum development for the age group assigned to
