Saratoga Hot Springs Resort Course and Grounds

Saratoga is a small, rural community of around 2,000 residents with a lot of charm. Though small, the hot springs in the area has made the community a favorite travel destination with many restaurants, and lodging options. Named by Outside Magazine and one of the best places to live, there are many recreational opportunities in the area. Larger towns and cities in the region include: Rawlins, Laramie, Cheyenne, WY; Fort Collins, Denver, CO and Park City and Salt Lake City, UT

Educational Requirements:

 Advanced Educational Degree or strong working knowledge/experience in turf grass management 

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years prior experience in golf course maintenance or similar industry. Preferred 2 or more years as an Assistant Superintendent of similar size course and geography.

Special Requirements:

•      Actively participate, oversees planning, scheduling, and supervising the daily tasks performed by the Grounds Maintenance staff to insure safe, efficient, and timely progress in these areas.

•      Responsible for the planning and execution of all relevant projects including but not limited to drainage, irrigation, renovations, planting, and upkeep relating to the golf course and all other resort grounds.

•      Oversees and assists the grounds maintenance personnel with preparations for daily course set up and all agronomic practices of the daily golf schedule.

•      Assists in the planning and supervises the implementation of all agronomic practices related to all turf and non-turf areas.

•      Gain authorization for all orders, capital improvements and track all necessary purchases related to the course and resort grounds. 

•      Maintains communication with the golf professional, and resort GM/AGM on course conditioning in relation to daily play, outings, and events.

•      Must be able to collaborate with the general manager and assistant general manager, and the golf course team to promote the course to attract golf members through relevant membership groups and organizations.

•      Degree in turf management or related field a plus. 

•      Off-season duties or seasonal work a possibility.

•      All other duties as assigned.


 

Qualifications

 

•      Current pesticide license and basic knowledge of pesticide and fertilizer usage, soil conditioners and alternative methods of plant health management are needed in the Rocky Mountain region. Wyoming state licenses must be obtained within the first year of employment. 

•      Sufficient understanding of the game of golf and how it applies to the conditioning of the course.

•      Knowledge of the construction, establishment and maintenance practices employed on golf course playing surfaces, roughs, and bunkers.

•      Working knowledge of planting and cultural practices of turf grasses used in the Rocky Mountain Region of the country.

•      Knowledge of drainage methods, watering practices, and irrigation systems including equipment operation, servicing, and repair.

•      Strong organizational and supervisory skills including the ability to schedule, train, motivate, reprimand, and direct employees in a safe and efficient manner.

•      Ability in preparing budget estimates, maintaining records, and formulating daily, short-term, and long-range planning programs which are realistically attainable.

•      Knowledge of safety regulations and standards governing pesticide usage, employee work standards and conditions and Right-to-Know.

•      Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with ownership, employees, vendors, guests, other resort employees and local golf course punch pass holders.

•      Dedication to personal improvement and course advancement; self starter.

•      Strong problem solving, multi-tasking, resourcefulness, and creativity skills.

•      Strong "team player" attitude displaying an eagerness to work cooperatively with all other resort staff and departments to accomplish a unified goal.

 

Comments on Saratoga Hot Springs Resort Public Golf Course:

The course has been undergoing extensive renovations to the Toro hydraulic irrigation system implementing a Rain Bird LXD 2 wire system. The putting green and driving range irrigation have been replaced also.

 

This position is a working position that requires a passion to see and take the course and resort grounds to its full potential with hard work and dedication. Must be willing to work on weekends and Holidays if necessary.

 

Job Description: The Saratoga Resort and Spa Turf and Grounds Superintendent is directly responsible for all aspects of care and maintenance of the course and resort grounds at Saratoga Hot Springs Resort in Saratoga, Wyoming. He/She will supervise and schedule all Course and Grounds staff as well as ensure that all tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and up to the standards set forth by the General Manager. The Turf and Grounds Superintendent is responsible for managing all purchasing for the course and grounds and will track all expenditures as instructed by the General Manager. He/She will also play an integral role in short- and long-term planning for the Grounds Maintenance department as a whole. In the off season, this position has the option to work with other resort departments or be seasonal, compensation is respective.


Course History: The Saratoga Golf Course is a 9-hole public course that was constructed in the 1950′s. The course is known for its historic value, a destination to those traveling to the area and laid-back playing atmosphere. We do offer the course to local schools and community members as a donation occasionally to help aid the continued growth of the golf game to students. A perfect experience for the beginning golfer as well as the accomplished player.

Available shifts and compensation: We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $25.00 - $28.00/hour.
