Experienced Cattle Hand

This is a unique position on a local regenerative ranch in Central Kentucky. The successful candidate will report to the Ranch Manager.

Livestock Duties

Cattle: Move cattle pens daily, inspect and care for cattle, assist in birthing as necessary, assist with herd health and overall management of herd. Procure cattle at direction of Ranch Manager. Sales of cows, heifers, bred heifers and beef (steers). Transport cattle as necessary. Interact with other stakeholders (vet, buyers, sellers) in a professional manner.

Goats: Move small goat herd to clear weeds / woodlands / underbrush. Utilize moveable woven fencing. Assist in birthing as necessary, assist with herd health and overall management of herd. Procure goats at direction of Ranch Manager. Sales from herd.  Transport as necessary. Interact with other stakeholders (vet, buyers, sellers) in a professional manner.

Hogs: Move small group of hogs to clear weeds / woodlands / underbrush; and to turnover, till or disrupt areas as directed by Ranch Manager. Utilize moveable woven fencing. Assist in birthing as necessary, assist with hog health and overall management of herd. Procure hogs at direction of Ranch Manager. Sales of meat from hog stock.  Transport as necessary. Interact with other stakeholders (vet, buyers, sellers) in a professional manner.

Chickens: Move chickens through pastures following cattle herd. Gather eggs daily, Assist with flock health and overall management of flock. Procure chickens at direction of Ranch Manager. Sales of eggs, hens, and spent hens. Transport as necessary. Interact with other stakeholders (vet, buyers, sellers) in a professional manner.

General Duties

Handyman: Fix, repair, and maintain buildings, sheds, and the systems within e.g  faucet leaks, light bulb replacement, filter cleaning and replacement and the like.

Equipment: General PM on various equipment - arrange or service in-house as directed and able. e.g. oil changes on UTVs, grease fittings on farm implements.

Supplies & Tools; Keep inventory of all supplies, and their use. Report to Ranch Manager any necessary re-orders (posts, boards, salt licks, minerals, hay, etc etc). Keep inventory of all tools and equipment along with service logs.

Grounds Duties

Grounds Maintenance: Mowing, trimming, weeding flower beds and vegetable gardens, mulching, driveway maintenance, and other related duties to keep the property and the buildings beautiful, clean, and well maintained/manicured.

Pastures Maintenance: Fence-line repair, maintenance, and improvement. Replace posts and boards as needed, move/create temporary corrals with electric fencing, improve fence lines with wire, electric fence back-ups, and  maintain gates, painting, and more.
