VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM COUNSELOR

 Position Description



ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Visual Arts Program Counselor provides activities and education that allow campers to express themselves creatively through multiple mediums. The main objective of the LVC arts program is to create space for expression, identity exploration, and confidence building through the act of creating.


BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY


  • Live in a cabin with a co-counselor and 8 campers, and provide active supervision and attention to the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers during all on-duty hours.
  • Provide age appropriate visual arts activities to campers using multiple mediums and skill sets.
  • Complete participation notes and attendance notes daily for all campers who attended visual arts activities.
  • Communicate with co-counselor and supervisor appropriately to balance responsibilities as a program instructor with responsibilities as a cabin counselor. 
  • Support the needs of other program areas with use of art room supplies and special art activities.
  • Actively participate in camp life and programming outside of visual art activity times including evening activities, camper choice time, theme days, bus duty, and more.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS


  • This position is compensated at a rate of $700 per week, pre-tax.
  • Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS


  • Current age-appropriate CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (PEAK will provide during staff training if needed)
  • Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.
  • Must be able to reside on the LVC resident camp property in Boscobel, WI starting with two weeks of staff training in June and ending after the last camp program lets out in mid-August.


REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS


  • The Visual Arts Program Counselor reports to a Program Coordinator with direction from Assistant Director of Programs & Expeditions

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • The camp environment is often hot, humid, or rainy. You must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time without air conditioning. 
  • Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, and walking long distances in hilly terrain.
  • Position requires working weekends and nights, with time off in between camp sessions. Camp days are often long and at times require late night camper support. Staff will have daily scheduled breaks.
