POSITION SCOPE

• This candidate will be responsible for coordinating the activities of employees on shift in processing the Fiber Line. The Fiber line includes the process of turning chips into pulp, as well as shipping the final product from the warehouse.

o Areas of responsibility include chip handling, digestor, brown stock, bleach plant, and pulp dryer.

• Responsible for ensuring high quality pulp is manufactured, in a safe and efficient manner.

• There is updated control system for the Pulp dryer as well as a new top tape system installed.

ROLES & REPONSIBLITIES

• Strong knowledge of how to successfully operate Kraft Mill which includes from the chipping process through to the final product being transported out.

• Ensure quality pulp has been manufactured safely.

• Able to coordinate with various operating and service departments as well as multiple resources.

• Supervise 15 or more hourly, unionized employees (The Company will provide training around contract language)

• Keeping track of and validating hours worked by the employees under the candidate’s supervision, to provide accurate pay for employees.

• Ensures the weekly schedule of work provided by Kraft Mill Superintendent is completed. This means working with Maintenance Department to ensure safe and efficient lockouts are completed and area is cleaned for safe work.

o Also entails making sure the projects are completed to improve the working conditions for quality pulp production.

• Willing to be involved in and provide input or suggestions for special projects that improve safety, quality, environmental, and / or production goals.

• Responsible for reporting safety incidents, ensuring standard operating procedures are up-to-date, work requests are entered, lockout tagout procedures are correct, etc.

• Ensure and enforce safety policies, safe working practices, quality, and production goals.

• Will need to ensure information is exchanged between managers, superintendents, and employees.

SKILLS

• Supervisory experience is required

• Capable of understanding and learning the control systems and software used.

• Ability to work effectively with all groups of people, including unionized work force.

• Candidate needs to have strong communication skills, (i.e., interpersonal, written and verbal)

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a group to a quick decision or make a timely decision on their own.

• Desired computer skills are Microsoft Word & Excel, CMMS experience, Kronos or equivalent program for tracking hours and pay for hourly workers

• Able to multi-task effectively under demanding circumstances

EDUCATION

• A high school or vocational school diploma is acceptable, with 3-5 years of job-related experience or the equivalent is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Shifts include 12 hours a day, 3 days on with 3 days off, then 3 nights on with 3 days off. With this type of schedule you work half a year.

• Includes working in an office, as well as supervising operations within the plant.

• Includes following detailed mill safety and environmental procedures.

• The company will provide training regarding union contracts, various reporting softwareused including meeting environmental and safety objectives.

• Will also provide training to make sure the candidate is trained in Reliability Excellence initiatives such as work requests regarding the CMMS system.

• There is also room for advancement or changing of work area, if so desired. This position will report to the Kraft Mill Superintendent.
