Seasonal Photographer/Videographer
Position Description

JOB TITLE: Photographer/Videographer

LOCATION: Office in Bar Harbor, ME + on-location in Acadia National Park and surrounding communities

REPORTING TO: Visual Storytelling & Visual Assets Manager (with Communications Team)

JOB STATUS: Part-Time, Seasonal Position (average 32 hours per week/19 weeks)

COMPENSATION: $20 - $24 hour (based on experience)

DATES OF SEASON: May 28-Oct. 8, 2024 (some flexibility on start and end dates)

JOB SUMMARY: Friends of Acadia is seeking a photographer/videographer to assist the Communications Team in covering programs, events, and scientific research in Acadia National Park. The position will require a flexible schedule to cover various events and programs as assigned. Photo and video assignments will vary in scope and length. The position requires some office time in Bar Harbor and on-location shoots in Acadia National Park and the surrounding communities.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Photography and Videography – 45-50% of work duties

  • Take high-quality and engaging photo stills and produce high-quality storytelling videos for Friends of Acadia websites, publications, and social media channels as assigned.
  • Photos and videos may also be used by both Friends of Acadia and Acadia National Park and in various communications channels.

 

Editing/Organization – 25-30% of work duties

  • Write complete AP Style captions, ingest all edited images, and upload into online archive.
  • Organize provided external hard drive with RAW images, edited images, and video projects so work can be easily archived at the end of the season.
  • Edit and complete video projects as assigned while following the FOA style guide.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the FOA Smug Mug page

 

Visual Storytelling – 15-20% of work duties

  • Create videos, reels, stories, and other content for the Friends of Acadia website and social media pages as assigned by the Communications Team.

 

Administration- 5% of work duties

  • Keep records of hours worked and miles logged.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A technologically savvy person who enjoys working with DSLR cameras, photo and video editing software (Premiere Pro, Photo Mechanic, and Photoshop/Lightroom) and can quickly learn and use new skills or applications.
  • Skilled at color correcting/toning photos true to life using Photoshop or Lightroom.
  • Creative and able to translate that creativity into compelling digital storytelling.
  • Ability to accept work direction and receive constructive feedback to help evolve the work.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good project management skills, including the ability to see a project through concept to implementation and evaluation in a collaborative decision-making environment.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented, highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player who can work well with others to support shared projects and storytelling.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Resourceful self-starter and a problem-solver.
  • The position will require some evening and weekend hours to support fundraising and/or program activities.
  • Capable of carrying at least 20 lbs while hiking long distances on moderate to steep trails.
  • Valid Drivers License


Housing: Applicants will be expected to find their own housing on or near Mount Desert Island.

 

Work Environment: Some of the work is performed outdoors and may involve moderate risks or discomfort. Occasional night and weekend assignments.
