 Overview: The Production Manager for our food processing facility is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the production process to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance with state and federal regulations governing food processing. This role requires a deep understanding of food processing operations, as well as comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Production Oversight:

    • Supervise and coordinate all production activities, including receiving, processing, packaging, and shipping.
    • Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demand while optimizing resources.
    • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and efficiency goals.
  2. Compliance Management:

    • Stay up-to-date on all state and federal laws and regulations governing food processing, including FDA and USDA guidelines.
    • Ensure that all production activities comply with relevant regulations regarding food safety, sanitation, labeling, and packaging.
    • Implement and maintain procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including documentation and record-keeping.
  3. Quality Assurance:

    • Establish and enforce quality control standards throughout the production process.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and address quality issues.
    • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  4. Team Leadership:

    • Recruit, train, and supervise production staff, including production line workers and supervisors.
    • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability among production personnel.
    • Provide coaching and performance feedback to employees to support their professional development.
  5. Inventory Management:

    • Oversee inventory levels of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods.
    • Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies.
    • Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste and optimize inventory turnover.
  6. Budgeting and Cost Control:

    • Assist in developing and managing the production budget, including labor, materials, and overhead costs.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies within the production process.
    • Monitor production performance metrics and financial KPIs to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in food processing operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations governing food processing, including FDA, USDA, and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and production management software.
  • Certification in HACCP and/or other food safety programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
