Overview: Join us in leading the change. We have a great opportunity for a Grid Manager!

The Grid Modernization Manager will develop, grow and provide overall leadership and management for company Distribution and Grid Modernization department.

Along with other Managers and peers, the Grid Manager will lead a group of 4-5 engineers in the execution of utility engineering studies and analysis such as Generation Interconnection Studies, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Integration, Load and Generation Forecasting, Reliability Studies, Distribution Automation Studies, Volt-Var Optimization, etc. The Manager will help our utility clients solve some of the most complex problems the industry faces and will recommend solutions, roadmaps and strategies to help them advance their quality of service to their customers. The Manager will spearhead utility innovation and R&D related projects, positioning the company and the client as an industry leader.

 

Location: Preferred location Twin Cities (Minneapolis/Saint Paul) but will also consider remote candidates  

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (25% or less)

Compensation: staring at $150,000 plus yearly bonus

 

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a power system engineer or manager.
  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering with power system emphasis. Master of Science or higher preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with technical content.
  • Strong technical skills and understanding.
  • Proven team player with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in the face of new challenges and projects.
  • Distribution modeling software experience in at least one software platform (preferably CYME or Synergi Electric)
  • Strong technical/report writing skills.
  • Thorough understanding of IEEE standards, especially IEEE 1547.
  • Rudimentary computer programming skills (Python, C++, Java, etc.)

 

How you can make an impact:

  • Cultivate, manage, develop and maintain relationships with customers and clients ranging from electric cooperatives, municipalities and utilities to generation developers and public utility commissions.
  • Lead, oversee and manage engineering studies for electric distribution systems including two to five-year Generation Interconnection Studies, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Integration, Load and Generation Forecasting, Reliability Studies, Distribution Automation Studies, Volt-Var Optimization, and provide input into strategic planning.
  • Lead, oversee and manage engineering studies for electric distribution systems including long-range planning studies, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Integration, Load and Generation Forecasting, Reliability Studies, Distribution Automation Studies, Volt-Var Optimization, and provide input into strategic planning.
  • Lead the development and execution of standardizing distribution planning practices.
  • Support the planning, management and execution of utility smart grid projects such as Distribution Automation, ADMS, OMS, DMS, SCADA, AMI and Microgrids.
  • Support execution of projects to assist electric utilities with management of integrated distribution planning, DER programs (solar PV, electric vehicles, battery storage, demand response, energy efficiency).
  • Lead innovation and R&D efforts for utilities and provide client support.
  • Lead the development and implementation of distribution planning best practices related to DERs and storage, including IEEE 1547, with consideration and support for distribution automation tools and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS).
  • Provide technical advisory services especially for distribution engineering practices, processes, and technologies, and DER.
  • Use relevant utility experience to engage with client utilities to understand their specific applications, approaches and methodologies in Distribution Planning and DER integration.
  • Manage, direct, mentor and grow your engineering team and their capabilities, while providing overall project leadership, status reports and high quality, timely client deliverables.
  • Prepare responses to Request for Proposals (RFP), by providing a scope of work and time and cost estimates for new projects.
  • Transfer knowledge, capabilities, and skills to improve others' knowledge and skill levels.
  • Support the evaluation of potential new vendor partners, and the development of partnerships with key vendors.
  • Support the growth of the business and evaluation and hiring of engineering staff.
