General Purpose:

Accomplishes, with a high degree of urgency, manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities that are requirements to perform the job:

  • Responsible for the shift’s overall safe and efficient and operation and in a manner that ensures employee safety, protection of the plant’s equipment, and employee productivity

  • Maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process, setting process variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; implementing cost reductions; facilitating corrections, initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation with and between departments/shifts, maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards

  • Completes the production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting work results; of the processing flow on shift production summaries

  • Maintains safe and clean environment while protecting same; by education and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures

  • Maximizes production efficiency by utilizing plant equipment effectively; assigning employees to the correct priorities; coordinates equipment repairs with maintenance to minimize down time; oversees preventative maintenance and minor repairs performed by shift employees

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing; professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies

  • Maintains working relationship with the union by following the collective bargaining agreement; minimizes grievances by correctly assigning overtime and call-ins;

  • Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data, answering questions and responding to requests

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:

  • Consult and advise Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and other members of management as needed

  • Performs as the Emergency Response Commander as required

  • May deal with vendors, non-employee delivery personnel, and other outside contacts
