In the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, there will be a micro coffee roastery where students will be immersed in the process of making artisanal coffee beverages from bean to cup. Roasting, grinding, tamping, pouring, and serving will be just a few of the hands-on learning activities for student training. Hotel guests and local patrons who visit the roastery will taste the quality of Auburn-roasted beans in every cup of handcrafted coffee.

Duties

  • Ability to thoughtfully engage with all customers visiting the Thrive Coffee shop about the concept and partnership with Auburn University
  • Oversee our teams and guests experience following Thrive Here@Auburn powered by Thrive Farmers and IHP's standards of service.
  • Monitor and observe guests café experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests and ensure team is trained properly to handle guest requests.
  • Work closely with the Director of Coffee Operations to ensure the outlets are operated in a neat and clean manner.
  • Be available to perform lateral service as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the cafe as directed by the Director of Coffee or immediate supervisor.
  • Working closely with team members to assist in preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea.
  • Educating team members on selling coffee and tea blends and brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items, and educating customers about brewing methods.
  • Learning about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
  • Assist Director of Coffee with interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, counseling, and team members.
  • Supervise all outlet staff to maintain service standards each shift across the RCSC Café and The Hotel at Auburn University café.
  • Assist team as needed with providing customer service to patrons, preparing food and beverage items, completing transactions, etc.
  • Maintain proper set-up of the café, enforce uniform and grooming standards of outlet team members on a daily basis.
  • Conduct daily "huddles" to keep staff informed of pertinent information.
  • Maintain an open line of communication between guests, management and line employees.
  • Follow up with guests to ensure satisfaction with the offerings and service.
  • Effectively deal with guest complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the guest, and providing positive and proactive solutions.
  • Responsible for ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the café and work areas.
  • Complete and distribute daily revenue reports, recaps, etc.
  • Uphold food and beverage excellence. Adhere to the standards and recipes set by the stores.
  • Ensure Outlet Requisitions are Met
  • Know and force all safety and health guidelines.
  • Assist Director of Coffee with completing roastery operations as needed.
  • Assist Director of Coffee with continuous training of employees and students.

Working Conditions:

  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time, consecutively.
  • Working in an environment around coffee roasting equipment which could present hot temperatures and heavy lifting.
  • Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver large bags of beans weighing up to 50 pounds or using equipment to assist lift.
  • Team members must have a flexible work schedule and ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a coffee shop or a coffee roaster as a barista preferred
  • Experience supervisor or leading in a similar operation or industry preferred
  • Possess basic math skills and can handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Positive Attitude and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation in a coffee environment
