NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION

The GED Instructor will teach students the necessary skills and knowledge for successful completion of the GED math or language examination, using a pre-developed curriculum. The instructor monitors and grades course work, facilitates class meetings, and regularly engages with students in order to help them achieve their goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Teach one or more math or language GED courses.
  2. Develop positive working relationships with students.
  3. Foster community in the online medium.
  4. Monitor student progress regularly.
  5. Prepare and facilitate high engagement learning activities for weekly online class meetings.
  6. Use effective retention strategies in order to maintain online students.
  7. Ensure online students are administered the approved pre and post assessments.
  8. Guide students regarding how to obtain their GED (if needed), transition into college, and obtain employment to earn a living wage.
  9. Work with other instructors and professionals to support individual students needs and progress.
  10. Attend staff meetings and in-service training, as required.
  11. Be sensitive to diverse cultural differences within the online classroom.
  12. Support college activities and special events through attendance and/or participation.
  13. Comply with all College policies, rules, and regulations.
  14. Remain current through a program of professional development.
  15. Performs all other duties assigned by the Career Navigator, Dean of CTE, and/or President.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES
  1. Knowledge of adult basic education math or language content.
  2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  3. Ability to work independently and make decisions based on general guidelines.
  4. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long term goals.
  5. Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  6. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures and ability to deliver excellent customer service.
  7. Ability to work with educational technologies, such as Zoom and Microsoft Office.
  8. Bachelors degree required with prior teaching experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, frequently lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver office supplies as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

This position are located in Pampa and Childress and operate in a professional environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Zoom, and various other educational applications. Some travel may be required for this position.
